Academy Award nominated writer Jonathan Nolan has said it would be a “dream” to return to The Dark Knight universe someday. Speaking with News18Showsha, Nolan, who is currently busy writing, directing, and producing the now critically acclaimed adaptation of the Fallout video game series, reflected in his time working alongside his brother Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, saying he would “absolutely” come back for more should the opportunity arise.


“Wouldn’t that be a dream?

That that period of my life… it was about 10 years of my life, when I got the call to go work on Batman Begins… 2003… to putting out The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, and it was epic. The chance to work with Christian, Heath, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, the extraordinary cast that film… in those films, and… and on a sort of… on an American icon. So… if I had the chance to go back and work on that again – absolutely!”

Uncredited on Batman Begins, Jonathan Nolan penned both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises alongside director Christopher Nolan. These adaptations, and particularly 2008’s The Dark Knight, are still held aloft as the pinnacle of comic book movies, with comparisons often being made to the second movie in the series when discussing the quality of the genre.

The Dark Knight continues to have a successful time on the big screen, with The Batman sequel, The Batman – Part II, now in the works. Starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, The Batman introduces audiences to an early version of the DC icon, with Bruce just two years into his career as a crime-fighter. Venturing into Gotham City’s underworld, Batman faces off against a sadistic killer who leaves behind a trail of cryptic clues.


Details of the follow-up remain largely unknown at present, but rumors have claimed that Clayface will be the main villain, while other reports have suggested that the Court of Owls, Calendar Man, Mr. Freeze, or Hush could be introduced alongside a new iteration of Robin.

After several delays, The Batman – Part II is now due to land in theaters on October 2, 2026.
