Zoe Saldaña Is Eager to Return for Star Trek 4: ‘I Still Have Hope’

Zoe Saldaña has offered a promising insight into her the development of the long-awaited Star Trek 4, saying that she still has “hope” the reboot cast will be brought back together for one last adventure across the stars. During a recent appearance on The Playlist’s “Discourse” podcast, Saldaña, who has starred as Nyota Uhura in all three of the modern Star Trek movies, also says that, while she is holding out hope for Star Trek 4, she cannot wait to see what else Paramount does with the “wonderful” franchise.

“I still have hope. I had a wonderful experience through and through and through the three times that I was a part of that team. I know that they’re always trying to sort of aim to wrangle everybody together, but I also know that Paramount is working on a new sort of fresh take on ‘Star Trek,’ which I think is such a wonderful franchise that should live for a very long time, whether or not us as the original remake cast can come back. I don’t know, but I certainly hope so.”

Star Trek was cleverly rebooted for the big screen back in 2009 as part of the new “Kelvin timeline.” The reboot introduces younger versions of such iconic characters as James T. Kirk and Spock and explores their early adventures as they boldly go where no man has gone before.

Following the first outing in 2009, two sequels, Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond, have since been released. A fourth movie has been in development now for several years, with different scripts detailing different storylines having been written. At present, it is unknown who will be involved in the sequel, or what direction it will take, but the studio has since described Star Trek 4 as the “final chapter” in the reboot franchise.

There Is Now “A Plan” for Star Trek 4, Says Roddenberry Entertainment

Further positivity regarding Star Trek 4 was recently shared by Roddenberry Entertainment COO Trevor Roth, who revealed that “a plan” is in place for another sequel which they are hoping will be released “in the very near future.”

“I am not able to say much, but I can say that it is Paramount’s intent to figure out the Star Trek side of movies and what’s going on there. There’s every intent of a new movie coming out in the very near future. There’s a lot of secrecy around what’s going to happen there. But there is a plan getting into place. And we’re very excited to see it return to the big screen.”

Saldaña is not the only one holding out hope that the Enterprise will rise again, with her co-star Zachary Quinto also eager to “jump back on board.” The actor, who plays Spock in the series, said back in 2021…

“Honestly, I have no real idea what’s going on with Star Trek. [But] we all love each other and we all love that experience and I’m sure if it comes back around and we’re all available, I’m sure we’d be happy to jump back on board. No pun intended. But I don’t know – that’s in other people’s hands and I know I, for one, have had sort of moved on in terms of any kind of expectations, but you never know things come back in surprising ways and it’s surprising times, and it could be fun if it happens.”
