Kristen Stewart’s 2024 Thriller With 94% Rotten Tomatoes Score Gets Streaming Release Date

Some three months after it became a critical and commercial hit, the Kristen Stewart-led Love Lies Bleeding has set a streaming release date. The A24 action crime film, directed by Rose Glass, stars Stewart as Lou, an awkward gym manager who falls for Jackie (Katy O’Brian, The Mandalorian), an ambitious bodybuilder who starts working out at Lou’s gym en route to a competition in Las Vegas. Set in 1989, the pair get caught up in the chaotic world of organized crime and competitive body building.

Now, Love Lies Bleeding has found a streaming home and release date. Per Collider, It will land on Max this July 19.Love Lies Bleeding will join A24’s sprawling lineup on the streaming platform, which is home to the majority of the independent production company’s movies.

Why Love Lies Bleeding Was A Hit With Critics

Love Lies Bleeding was a hit with critics and viewers alike, earning an 82% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The neo-noir style thriller offers an exciting and fresh take on queer storytelling, as it moves away from using the protagonists’ sexuality as a major plot device. Although the film centers around a queer love story, it also takes viewers on a whirlwind journey of action, crime, dysfunctional family dynamics, murder, and unexpected twists along the way.

Love Lies Bleeding‘s success is also due to its stars. The film’s leads, Stewart and O’Brian, deliver stellar performances, along with a strong supporting cast that includes The Hunger Games‘ Jena Malone, who plays Lou’s sister, Beth, and Dave Franco, who stars as Beth’s abusive husband, JJ. Rounding out the cast’s distinct personalities is Ed Harris as Lou’s criminal father, and her ex-girlfriend, Dickinson‘s Anna Baryshnikov. Stewart’s roles as queer women often generate excitement, adding to the buzz around the film.

Kristen Stewart’s new movie Love Lies Bleeding has put her back on track after her last movie’s Rotten Tomatoes score broke her best “Fresh” streak.

However, Love Lies Bleeding did not deliver as strong of a box office performance as other A24 titles, with its short theatrical run bringing in a modest $11 million. It went to VOD on Amazon Prime Video in April, but now it will be free to stream for Max subscribers beginning on July 19. This will allow those to enjoy the movie from the comfort of their home, in turn, hopefully allowing the film to be seen by more people. While Love Lies Bleeding was clearly enjoyed by those who watched it, it deserves to be seen by a larger audience, and to gain more recognition.
