The official title of the third Knives Out movie was officially revealed a few days ago, with Netflix announcing that the latest whodunnit will be called Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Following the announcement, returning director Rian Johnson released the following statement…

“I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”

The former James Bond star Daniel Craig is all set to return as the ludicrously accented private detective Benoit Blanc. Cailee Spaeny is all but confirmed, followiung her big roles in Civil War and Priscilla. Joining her is Josh O’Connor, who has received critical acclaim for his performance in the Netflix series The Crown, in which he starred as Charles, Prince of Wales. O’Connor has been met with further acclaim for this year’s Challengers from director Luca Guadagnino, in which he stars alongside Zendaya and Mike Faist. And of course, Andrew Scott is beloved for his performances in Sherlock, Fleabag, Ripley, and All of Us Strangers.

Could Tom Hardy & Lindsay Lohan Join Knives Out 3?

So far, both Knives Out movies have been brimming with major stars. The first outing saw the likes of Ana de Armas, Christopher Plummer, Chris Evans, Katherine Langford, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, and Toni Collette as the main ensemble cast, with the sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, finding Benoit Blanc pointing the finger at Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista.

Certainly, the addition of Cailee Spaeny and Josh O’Connor would get Knives Out 3 off to a solid start, but the second pair of names rumored to join would perhaps even top the first two outings. Both Tom Hardy and Lindsay Lohan are now reportedly in talks, and while What’s on Netflix goes on to state that said talks may have “fallen through,” it’s still very possible that we could see these Hollywood stars facing the accusatory gaze of Benoit Blanc.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
is due to begin filming in fall 2024, in London, and is scheduled to make its debut on Netflix in 2025.
