While the Road House remake can’t equal the insane charm of the 1989 original, the remake surpasses the original in other areas.

Directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) from a screenplay written by Anthony Bagarozzi (The Nice Guys) and Charles Mondry (Doc Savage), Road House stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Elwood Dalton and UFC champion fighter Conor McGregor in his first-ever film role. Cannon (Why Women Kill), Arturo Castro (The Terminal List), Dominique Columbus (Ray Donovan), Beau Knapp (The Lost Symbol), and Bob Menery (Billions).

Road House 2 Is Now Happening, With Jake Gyllenhaal Back as Former UFC Fighter Elwood Dalton

At present, details regarding the direction of Road House 2 remain unknown. While it has been confirmed that Jake Gyllenhaal will return, it has not yet been revealed whether director Doug Liman will join him. Plot details are currently under wraps but, considering the character’s popularity, we can likely expect the follow-up to build on the first movie’s mid-credits scene and bring back Conor McGregor’s Knox. Road House 2: Opportunity Knox, perhaps?

A sequel to this year’s Road House remake was officially announced last month by Amazon. The remake has been a huge hit for Amazon Prime Video since it debuted back in March, and despite mixed reviews, has attracted a record-breaking 50 million worldwide viewers over its first two weekends, making the action movie the “most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis.”

“As we saw this spring the world went crazy for a little movie called ‘Road House,’” Amazon MGM Studio chief Jennifer Salke said of the sequel during streamer’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York. “Nearly 8 million viewers globally have watched Roadhouse. We like to watch this these results like a baby.”
