Actor Eddie Murphy, Fan of The Golden Bachelor, Reacts to Gerry Turner Split

Comedy icon Eddie Murphy, a surprising Bachelor Nation member, revealed in a recent New York Times interview that he watched the entire first season of The Golden Bachelor. He wasn’t shy about his disappointment, expressing outrage over the short-lived romance between Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist. The couple, who married in a televised ceremony in January, announced their split just three months later in April.

“Last year, I watched all of The Golden Bachelor,” Murphy said. “You know they broke up? What kind of s–t is that?”

Murphy shared that he had hopes for Golden Bachelor Turner, 72, and Nist, 70, noting how nice it was that the two had found love later in life. Before tying the knot, the two were in long-term marriages with their high-school sweethearts, who had both passed.

“I watched that s–t, I was like, ‘This is so nice, they found love in the second part of they life. This is a nice show. Bravo!’ Then I find out [they] motherf–king broke up three months later. The same old s–t.”

Much to the shock of Murphy and loyal Bachelor fans, Turner and Nist announced their separation during an April episode of Good Morning America. Turner shared that after several “heart-to-heart conversations” the two had mutually decided to dissolve their marriage, later explaining:

“The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families … So we look at these situations and I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to, to live apart.”

Eddie Murphy Revealed His Surprising TV Habits

Murphy’s surprising admission came when he was asked what television shows he watches. Along with Golden Bachelor, Murphy admitted to watching some other “not hip stuff:”

“Every night at 6 o’clock, before I eat dinner, I watch Steve Harvey and ‘Family Feud,'” Murphy said. “I watch ‘The Masked Singer.’ My wife and I, we watch all of those shows, the singing competitions and that kind of stuff.”

The Bachelor franchise, which includes multiple spinoffs, a podcast network, live tours and more, is known for its loyal fan base. Whether Murphy is among the devoted fan base and whether he’ll watch the first season of The Golden Bachelorette when it premieres this Fall remains to be seen.

Eddie Murphy Reprises Beverly Hills Cop Character

Murphy will next be seen in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the Netflix film follows Detective Axel Foley (Murphy), returning to the wealthy town of Beverly Hills. This time, it’s not because of a case, but because his daughter’s life is threatened. The film marks Murphy’s return to the Beverly Hills Cop franchise after 30 years and 40 years after the first film was released.

“We’ve been trying to develop another ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ since ’96. The one we did in ’94, I didn’t think the movie came out good. There’s been 10 different scripts and a bunch of different producers, and we just tried for years and years, and it wouldn’t come together until we got Jerry [Bruckheimer] back involved, the original producer. Jerry, he understood it the most because it’s his movie, and it all came together,” Murphy told the New York Times.

Murphy feels 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III wasn’t as strong as its predecessors, lacking “the emotional hook the other ones have.”

“Axel has to be fueled by one of his friends or somebody close to him in danger or something; the movie needs a great villain.

And Jerry brought all the elements back to it.”
