Adapted from the Israeli TV show Kvodo, Your Honor is a legal crime drama premiering as a Showtime original series on December 6, 2020. The story concerns Michael Desiato (Cranston in his best role since Breaking Bad), a revered judge in New Orleans caught in a vexing legal bind caused by his 17-year-old son, Adam (Hunter Doohan). The inciting event in the series involves Adam accidentally killing Rocco Baxter (Benjamin Wadsworth) in a hit-and-run car crash. Following the tragedy, Michael encourages his son to act morally and turn himself in to the authorities.

Once Michael learns that Rocco is the son of the powerful mobster Jimmy Baxter (Michael Stuhlbarg), Michael redirects course and begins to cover up Adam’s crime. With his moral compass and ethical beliefs compromised, Michael is willing to do anything to keep his family from facing Baxter’s wrath while avoiding legal culpability for Rocco’s death.

As Michael loses his honor, he retraces Adam’s steps, covers up his tracks, and severs every minor loose end he can think of. Part of the process includes eliminating witnesses to Adam’s crime. But when a witness strikes first and blackmails Michael to keep quiet, the results lead to the family dog Django being treated with a curious item that proves Michael bit off more than he can chew.

After accidentally killing Rocco Baxter in a hit-and-run, Adam stops at a gas station. While filling his tank, Adam is spotted by Trevor Lincoln (Christopher Berry). Trevor uses his knowledge to blackmail Michael, demanding $222,000 to keep quiet. Michael agrees to pay a portion of the asking fee and purchase Trevor a boat for his silence. However, once Jimmy and his enforcer Frankie (Tony Curran) find Trevor and Michael together, the mobsters assume that Trevor killed Rocco instead of Adam. As a result, Jimmy whacks Trevor by shooting him in the back of the head in front of Michael.

Once Jimmy murders Trevor, he orders Michael and Frankie to dispose of the corpse. Becoming more complicit, Michael’s ties to Jimmy continue to blur his moral boundaries and erase two decades of operating within the confines of the legal justice system. As Michael struggles with his crisis of conscience, the metaphorical blood he has on his hands turns literal when he returns home for a quaint family dinner.

What Does Django Eat & What Does it Mean?

At the end of Your Honor “Part 7,” Michael rushes home to enjoy a family meal. During the meal, the family’s pet dog Django begins eating a substance resembling gristle that he picked off Michael’s shoes or clothes under the table. When Adam notices Django chewing on something and begins to examine the substance, Michael distracts his son’s attention and pretends it’s a simple dog treat. In reality, Django is eating a piece of Trevor’s brain matter that was left on Michael’s clothing after Jimmy shot the man dead.

The significance of Django eating Trevor’s remains is multifold. Firstly, it proves how inept Michael is at covering up his crimes. Somehow, after washing the blood away in a slow-motion shower sequence, he was unable to remove the evidence tying him to Jimmy’s murder of Trevor. Django also finds Michael’s bloody shirt in the house after he fails to destroy the incriminating evidence.

Most importantly, the episode marks a substantial turning point for Michael, who continues to buck the law, erode his moral tenets, and align himself with Jimmy’s criminal empire. Before this crucial point of no return, the blood on Michael’s hands was figurative. Afterward, Michael is physically caught red-handed and nearly exposed for his criminal endeavors. Despite his legal expertise, Michael realizes that operating on the other side of the law is much harder and more ethically ambiguous than he may have thought. Unfortunately, his actions worsen after Part 7 as he spirals down a criminal path, failing to protect Adam in the long run of the must-see Bryan Cranston TV series.
