Bupkis is no more. Despite a Season 2 renewal following a solid first season outing, series co-creator and star Pete Davidson is moving on. Earlier this week, Davidson released a statement revealing Bupkis‘ surprising conclusion.

“I’ve always seen ‘Bupkis’ as a window into my life, since it is so personal and about my struggles and family. After nearly a decade of my personal life being in the media, I wanted a chance to tell my story my way. Of all the work I’ve ever done, ‘Bupkis’ is by far what I’m most proud of. I am so grateful to Lorne Michaels and Broadway Video, Peacock, Universal Television and the amazing cast and writers for helping me create something honest, funny and heartfelt. I do also feel that this part of my life is finished. I’m very excited for this next chapter and for you guys to see the work. Thank you to all who support me for I am forever grateful.”

Onscreen, Davidson most recently appeared in Good Burger 2 and Dumb Money and has several upcoming projects lined up, including the psychological thriller The Home, which is set for release this year, and the comedy Wizards! Bupkis’ Star-Studded Cast

Bupkis Joe Pesci and Edie Falco

Bupkis premiered in May 2023 and presented a heightened, fictionalized version of Davidson’s real life, combining grounded storytelling with absurd elements. The comedy premiered to a strong critical and audience reception.

The semi-autobiographical Bupkis followed Davidson as he dealt with family struggles, his fame, and friendships. Along with Davidson, the series starred Emmy Award winner Edie Falco as Davidson’s mother, Amy, and Academy Award winner Joe Pesci as Davidson’s grandfather, Joe LaRocca. Pesci came out of semi-retirement to appear in the series, something that Bupkis co-creator Judah Miller credited to Davidson being a “dreamer.”

“When it comes to casting someone like Joe Pesci, you’re told that it’s impossible,” Miller told NBC. “You’re told it’s not going to happen and Pete is a dreamer. But somehow he’s able to make things that seem impossible,
. It’s unbelievable.”

Bupkis Review: Pete Davidson’s Rule-Breaking Comedy Series

Forget Pete Davidson’s girlfriends and glitzy celebrity life — Bupkis is hilarious and moving by focusing instead on melancholic and mundane moments.

Alongside the talented starring trio, the series welcomed an impressive roster of guest and recurring stars, including Bobby Cannavale, Brad Garrett, Ray Romano, Charlie Day, Keenan Thompson, Chase Sui Wonders, Sebastian Stan, Method Man, Al Gore, Machine Gun Kelly, and even David Howard Thornton as the terrifying Art the Clown, among many others.

The Hollywood Reporter shared that Davidson’s agent contacted Peacock earlier this week about the SNL alum’s decision to wrap Bupkis. The series was renewed for its sophomore season in June 2023 (just a month following its premiere) and was scheduled to begin production in New York this summer.

Bupkis was created by Davidson, Miller, and Dave Sirus. Broadway Video’s Lorne Michaels, Andrew Singer, and Erin David served as executive producers.

All eight episodes of
are available to stream on Peacock.
