With the upcoming release of Season 4 of The Boys series, Amazon primes viewers with the announcement of a fifth season renewal. Eric Kripke, the mastermind behind the show’s darkly comic exploration of superhero culture, recently hinted at the future. The early renewal of the series, even before the latest episodes even hit Prime Video, shows Amazon’s confidence in the series’ continued success.

During his interview with Screen Rant, Kripke admitted that ideas for Season 5 are still very much in their formative stages, saying:

Even I don’t. I mean, we’re about a month into the writers room right now, so we have some pretty cool notions. It’s a very raw lava-esque deal right now. It hasn’t hardened into anything, but I’m excited. I think there’s some crazy sh*t’s been talked about, that’s for sure.

The Boys Season 4 Introduces Brain and Brawn with Sister Cage & Firecracker

The Boys new characters Firecracker and Sister Sage with Billy Butcher
Prime Video

Kripke revealed what fans can expect in the fourth season of The Boys, per EW. The series will introduce two new members to the infamous Seven, expanding the ensemble with characters who are as intellectually formidable as they are morally complex.

Sister Sage, portrayed by Susan Heyward, emerges not with overwhelming physical power but with a mind sharp enough to potentially reshape society—if only she could be heard. Kripke describes her as the smartest person in the room, whose brilliance is constantly overlooked due to her background and gender.

“It’s such a funny power. A lot of superhero worlds have that character. Whereas most of them are usually really reedy white dudes, we wanted a Black woman who was raised in a low socioeconomic area, so no one f—ing listens to her.”

Contrasting Sister Sage’s quiet disenchantment is the explosive presence of Firecracker, brought to life by Valorie Curry. A character that represents the extreme fringes of political thought, Firecracker is an alt-right extremist whose tactics and ideology are as fiery as her name suggests.

It turns out, there’s always crazier. Firecracker represents both members of the conspiracy-minded movements and the super extreme right-wing news media.

Kripke hints at a deeper connection between Firecracker and the existing characters, suggesting that her backstory and motivations will intertwine significantly with the overarching narrative. “That character has some surprising backstory that connects her to some of the characters in our world that it was just interesting to bring in one of those pistol-packing ‘I shot my puppies’ type of characters,” said Kripke.

The Boys Season 4 Is Jack Quaid’s Favorite Yet

The Boys Season 4 was dubbed by star Jack Quaid as his favorite. The actor, who portrays Hughie, the resourceful yet powerless heart of the anti-superhero group, teased fans about what’s to come.

This is my favorite season that we’ve ever done. The writers have topped themselves. There are those moments that are big and explosive and gross and insane, and there’s stuff that tops even the craziest stuff that we did last season, if you can believe that.

The Boys, known for its unapologetic critique of superhero commercialism, continues to surprise and provoke with its bold narrative choices. This new season, according to Quaid, will not only continue this tradition but also elevate it to new heights. Quaid’s admiration for the show’s creative team shines through as he praises their ability to continually reinvent the series, ensuring that each season feels new and exhilarating.

“I think that’s a real testament to the writers. It is never more of the same. They always find a way to somehow find new beats, and they never repeat themselves. It’s been really cool.”

Everything to Remember From The Boys Before Watching Season 4

With Season 4 of The Boys on the horizon and two years since Season 3, it’s a good time for a refresher about where the story left off.

When pressed about the pacing of the new season and how quickly audiences can expect to be thrown into the deep end, Quaid’s advice was to always be on guard.

You need to brace yourselves at all times when watching the show,” he warned. “I don’t think there’s any other way to watch it. We all know the drill at this point.

The Boys
Season 4 is set to premiere on Prime Video on June 13.
