New cosplay for The Boys shows Maeve at a critical point in her career in the Seven. A former lover of Homelander, Queen Maeve (aka Maggie Shaw) has been a main character on The Boys since season 1, as she is one of the few women in the Seven. Maeve is played by actress Dominique McElligott who joins a leading cast that includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Anthony Starr, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, and Erin Moriarity. The Boys season 4 is currently underway, and has released its first three episodes to Prime Video.

Cosplay from @missbrisolo shows a depiction of Queen Maeve. The cosplayer posted a series of images of her posing as The Boys character, showing Maeve’s gear and sharing screenshots from The Boys. All of these looks well-capture the armoed suit Maeve wears, highlighting the character at the height of her career in the Seven, before the damaging events of The Boys season 3 ending. @missbrisolo began her caption to the post with “happy pride month from our favorite bi – I mean, lesbian super!!” She included a celebratory emoji as well as the rainbow-striped Pride Flag.

Queen Maeve Has Fallen from This Pristine Shape

Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve revealed to be alive in The Boys season 3 finale

This cosplay is a good reminder of the early days of Queen Maeve, when she was one of the most powerful members of the Seven. With the screenshots and caption, the post also highlights the critical role that the character serves in The Boys’ representation. Maeve is a queer character, a fact about her that is oft-exploited by Vought in order to appear more diverse. One post screenshot recalls this corporate exploitation and distortion, citing Ashley’s line “I just feel like lesbian is a bit of an easier sell [than bisexual].”

By the end of The Boys season 3, Maeve is in much rougher shape than how she appeared in her strong, muscular day. This is due to events in the season 3 finale wherein Maeve falls out of a building and into an explosion with Solider Boy in hand. As a result of this explosion, Maeve does not die, but receives multiple injuries, including losing an eye and sustaining injuries to the leg. As a sup, Queen Maeve is strong enough to recover from this fall, but it may take some time.

Looking at this cosplay version of Maeve allows for this reflection on how far the character has come within the series. At the end of The Boys season 3, Maeve has left her post in the Seven to hide out with girlfriend Elena. Whether Maeve will come out of hiding remains unclear, but that question will likely be answered as The Boys season 4 continues its run.
