New behind-the-scenes images have given fans the first proper look at David Corenswet as Clark Kent in James Gunn’s Superman (2025). Details about the project have been kept secret by Gunn, and the new suit has yet to be revealed, but new photos of the DCU’s new leading man have now given fans their best look yet at Corenswet’s Clark Kent.

Photos captured on the Con Yucatán Facebook page have given fans a glimpse of Corenswet’s physique for Superman. Shown filming an Ad in Mexico, the images shows off his bulked-up physique in a tank top, and many have compared his build to that of Henry Cavill – who portrayed the Man of Steel 5 times between 2013’s Man of Steel and 2022’s Black Adam.

When Corenswet was first cast as Clark Kent, many fans wrote him off as being too skinny for the role. While Superman has always been a big character, Cavill’s iteration set the new standard for how jacked actors needed to get for superhero roles. However, these set photos show that Corenswet has put in some serious hours in the gym to portray a believable Superman in James Gunn’s new reboot.

The DC Universe Is Taking a Much-Needed Break

James Gunn’s Superman will be released until 2025, which actually means that 2024 will be without a new entry in the DC Cinematic Universe. Todd Phillip’s Joker: Folie à Deux is still set to release this October, but its story takes place in a standalone universe. 2025’s Superman will kick-start Gunn’s new DC Universe, after the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) officially ended following Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The break in the new DCU’s film slate should help the rebooted franchise distance itself from the genre fatigue that has plagued superhero movies recently.

James Gunn has been very open about his opinion on ‘superhero fatigue’. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Gunn said “I think it doesn’t have anything to do with superheroes. It has to do with the kind of stories that get to be told.”

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen a drastic decline in quality since Spider-Man: Far From Home, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 helped to breath new life into the beleaguered franchise in a year that saw The Marvels becoming the lowest growing movie in the entire 16 -year-old saga.

Superman Legacy: Who Is The Engineer? (And Why You Should Care)

Launching out of The Authority, The Engineer is a surprising character to introduce within James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy. Let’s break it down.

However, after Superman debuts in 2025, James Gunn has a packed slate of projects which comprise the new DCU’s first phase, titled Gods & Monsters. This slate includes Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Brave and the Bold, a Swamp Thing movie, and the recently announced Teen Titans film. James Gunn’s Superman also continues his trend of giving underappreciated comic book characters the spotlight. Alongside Corenswet’s Superman, Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced will be portraying the anti-hero The Engineer. The Engineer’s appearance will also tie Superman into the upcoming The Authority movie, which also takes place in the new DCU’s first phase.
