WARNING: Contains Spoilers for Batman #148

Red Hood has officially gotten a new look in mainstream continuity, which is a perfect agglomeration of his past designs. However, one question stands at the forefront: Is this look fire, or does it need to be burned? Whether you love it or hate it, one thing is for certain: This new outfit opens up a world of possibilities for Jason Todd cosplayers.

Cosplays are morbidly famous for recreating the second Robin’s death scene, and since Red Hood died in this new costume, it would be perfect for creating some unique and fresh Jason Todd death scenes.

Chip Zdarsky, Jorge Jiménez, and Tomeu Morey’s Batman #148 might be the most controversial issue in Zdarsky’s run, introducing a major development in Red Hood’s ever-evolving lore. In this issue, the Bat-Family reunites after their multi-issue separation to fight Failsafe, with the success of their plan hinging on Red Hood dying (temporarily).

The creative decision to once again kill off Jason Todd and bring him back in such a lackluster way has received a mixed reception. Red Hood’s new costume, which some love and others love to hate, has also added to the mixed reception of this issue.

Red Hood Officially Gets a New Costume in Chip Zdarsky’s Batman #148 (For Better or For Worse)

Jason’s new Red Hood costume retains his typical upper body armor with the signature red bat-like shape on his chest. However, its the other design elements that make this an ambitious new look for the hero. One of the boldest aspects of the redesign is the predominantly brown leather cut-off jacket with a black hood, notably fused to the upper body armor, creating a distinctive look. Other new features include red-soled black combat boots that are reminiscent of Louboutins and red-striped black Adidas-style track pants.

It’s clear that while this costume is unique, it essentially combines some of the best elements from Red Hood’s previous outfits. This includes the brown leather jacket Jason prominently wore in the Red Hood and the Outlaws series, the literal hood from the ongoing series Red Hood: The Hill, the body armor featured in Task Force Z, and the glowing red eyes that have appeared in earlier iterations. However, the outfit isn’t entirely composed of past designs. The new look introduces various street-wear elements, with the track pants being perhaps the most notable addition.

This costume is great inspiration for fans looking to spice up their Jason Todd cosplays or for those seeking a design that features more street-wear elements, making it more attainable than Red Hood’s armor-heavy designs. Cosplays are also morbidly famous for recreating the second Robin’s death scene, and since Red Hood died in this new costume, it would be perfect for creating some unique and fresh Jason Todd death scenes.
