Pierce Brosnan to Star as Aging Werewolf Hunter in New Horror Movie Wolfland

Legendary James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan is set to star in the new werewolf film, Wolfland, which is to be helmed by his son, director Sean Brosnan. The elder Brosnan’s career began in 1979, and he quickly found fame by starring in the 1982 television series, Remington Steele. He would go on to achieve icon status in 1995 by way of GoldenEye, where he portrayed Ian Fleming’s 007, a role he’d reprise three more times into the 2000s.

As per Variety, Wolfland will be directed by actor-turned-director Sean Brosnan, who will also pen the script along with co-writer Matt D’Elia. The 40-year-old first began acting in 1997, appearing in Robinson Crusoe alongside his father, and would go on to be featured in such films as A West Texas Children’s Story, and Don Peyote, before directing and starring in 2016’s, My Father Die. He says he’s looking forward to working with his father on a film that aims to “redefine the werewolf sub-genre.”

Pierce Brosnan will star in Wolfland as Devlin, a legendary werewolf hunter who is recruited to hunt down a “phantom monster” in order to save a young girl. The film is described as an “epic odyssey,” and you can read the full synopsis below.

“Wolfland follows a young teenager who, when his sister is viciously attacked and showing signs of a transformation, leaves his small village in search of a legendary werewolf hunter who can reverse the gruesome curse. When he finds the ‘legend,’ Devlin, slumped against a bar and in no mood for ghost stories, Delvin takes the kid’s money and agrees to hunt down this phantom monster, only to find themselves in a deadly whirlwind of carnage.”

Wolfland’s Effects Aim to Rival Those of Another Werewolf Classic

One of the main criticisms when it comes to werewolf movies is that the transformation effects always look a little off. The bar was set in 1981 by both Joe Dante’s The Howling, and John Landis’ An American Werewolf in London, with effects by Rob Bottin and Rick Baker respectively. Since then, few films have been able to achieve what those two did nearly 45 years ago, despite the advent of CGI. With Wolfland, Sean Brosnan will be bringing in The Imaginarium Studios, founded by Andy Serkis, to provide creature effects for the film.

Serkis, who is known for his work in both the Planet of the Apes and The Lord of the Rings franchises, founded Imaginarium in 2011 along with producer Jonathan Cavendish. Since then, the company has been involved in creating effects for the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and 2014s Godzilla. With their talents being added to the mix on Wolfland, Brosnan is hoping to craft a film that will rival the effects seen in An American Werewolf in London.
