New Leaks Reportedly Reveal The Cyberpunk 2077 DLC We Never Got

New leaks may have revealed a canceled Cyberpunk 2077 DLC. When CD Projekt Red’s futuristic RPG launched in 2020, it was heavily criticized for bugs and performance issues. These issues impacted the post-launch content, as the studio had to work on getting the base game into a workable state, pushing back the development timeline.

Cyberpunk 2077 was eventually fixed and even improved upon with patches such as the 2.0 update that overhauled its gameplay, and CD Projekt Red launched the game’s acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion in 2023, introducing a new area near Pacifica called Dogtown, and a whole new story involving the FIA. A series of images recently emerged on social media of a further unnamed Moon-based expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 that appeared to be canceled, as reported by Insider Gaming. These images consist of concept art, blueprints, file repositories, and map-based data, revealing what could have been the first expansion to take place outside of Night City.

The Moon Has Plenty Of Cyberpunk Lore Already

In Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk universe, the Moon – which is also referred to as Luna – has been colonized, has a population of around 58,000 people, and has two major cities, Tycho and Copernicus. These cities were both formerly controlled by the European Space Agency and were part of the Highrider Confederation by 2077. Both Arasaka and Militech have also set up operations there, mining it for resources. One of Phantom Liberty‘s endings also sees V potentially sending Songbird to the moon to get the medical treatment she needs at the advanced facilities there, but it’s unclear whether this ending could have tied back into the Moon-based expansion if it took place later in the timeline.

The moon was also heavily discussed in Cyberpunk 2077‘s anime spin-off Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, as protagonists David and Lucy share a Braindance that takes place there and dream of visiting it for real someday. Unfortunately, the show also revealed that a one-way ticket to the Moon’s surface costs 250,000 eurodollars, making it unattainable for many.

Sadly, CD Projekt Red confirmed that Phantom Liberty would be the one and only Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, so there’s no chance players will ever get to visit the Moon in the game. Hopefully, considering its presence in the franchise, the studio will look to incorporate some of the canceled expansion’s ideas into the upcoming sequel Project Orion instead, as many of its developers have moved onto working on that and the upcoming The Witcher title, currently codenamed Polaris.
