    Mortal Kombat
    saga.

After being greenlit back in 2022, and following several delays, we finally know when we will get to see the bloody mayhem of Mortal Kombat once again take over the silver screen. Warner Bros. has now announced that Mortal Kombat 2, a sequel to the 2021 outing, will land in IMAX theaters on 24 October, 2025 (via Deadline).

Directed once again by Simon McQuoid from a script written by Moon Knight’s Jeremy Slater, Mortal Kombat 2 will pick up with the once washed-up mixed martial arts fighter Cole Young as he and a band of other fighters must battle to defend Earthrealm against Outworld.

Not much is yet known about what Mortal Kombat 2 will involve plot-wise, though we can no doubt rest assured that it will involve a lot of martial arts action. What we do know is that the video game-based sequel will feature a whole host of familiar characters. Alongside Lewis Tan as Cole Young, the rest of the cast includes Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Briggs, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han / Noob Saibo, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi / Scorpion, Josh Lawson as Kano, Max Huang as Revenant Kung Lao, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, and more.

The most exciting addition for fans, though, is beloved character Johnny Cage, who is all set to be portrayed by The Boys star Karl Urban. The actor took to social media back in January to celebrate wrapping on the action movie, commending the “incredible crew, cast and phenomenal stunt team.”

“That’s a picture wrap for me & Johnny Cage on Mortal Kombat 2! Massive thanks to our incredible crew, cast and phenomenal stunt team. Hands down themost action packed fun I’ve ever had on a film! Can’t wait for y’all to see it. Special thanks to everyone offset who helped make this time here on the Gold Coast Australia such a pleasure.”

Mortal Kombat 2 Producer Hints First Trailer Could Be Bigger Than Deadpool 3

Deadpool & Wolverine’s first trailer set a huge record as the most watched movie trailer, but Mortal Kombat 2 producer suggests that could change.

Lewis Tan, meanwhile, has teased a much “bigger” and more “insane” cinematic experience when Mortal Kombat 2 hits theaters next year.

“Well, it impacts a lot, but not really us in particular because New Line is the studio that is under the branch of Warner Bros. But they’re very happy with the movie, and obviously, it performed really well. It’s one of the most-viewed films of their Warner Bros. Slate, even though it came out at the worst time ever possible. But no, we’re full steam ahead. And now, we have Ed Boon with us as well, so we got the stamp of approval from the legend himself. #2 is just going to be absolutely insane. Way bigger.”

So, once again for those in the back,
Mortal Kombat 2
is scheduled to be theatrically released by Warner Bros. Pictures on October 24, 2025.
