The last picture of a British tourist missing in Tenerife was taken at a white-washed holiday home.
Nestled behind a local bar and eatery on the fringes of Masca village, the property was hired by two men accompanying 19-year-old Jay Slater the night before he vanished. They are both understood to have checked out yesterday before flying back to the UK.
Jay uploaded a final picture to social media that shows him clasping a cigarette on the property’s stairway shortly before his disappearance – and it remains one of the last signs of him.
An employee who works near the home said: “The two British men have left. I think it was yesterday but I’m not sure.”
A large scale search for the British teen continues after he was first reported missing on Monday, reports the Mirror.
Lucy Mae Law, a friend, sounded the alert following a distress call from Jay – an apprentice bricklayer hailing from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire.
She noted his trek back to their rental at about 8am on Monday, his parched state, and his phone’s imminent power loss.
The connection with Jay’s phone severed shortly thereafter, and the last detected location pinned him in Rural de Teno, a rugged region of the isle.
His immediate family has since arrived to aid in the search.
Lucy has hit out at about the Civil Guard’s search efforts, stating “we need British police”.
“We need British police here,” she said. “I just want to find my mate. He’s been missing three days.
“It’s not looking good now. We feel as though it’s down to us to find him and that we’re doing more than the police.”
