    The Dark Tower
    .

Writer/director Mike Flanagan is known for some of the most acclaimed horror series in recent memory, and while fans are usually good about spotting all the Easter eggs littered throughout his creations, he says there’s one that has yet to be discovered. Flanagan got his start in feature films with 2011’s Absentia, and from there he would go on to direct a few more well-received horror movies before diving into the works of Stephen King with 2017’s Gerald’s Game for Netflix. The 46-year-old filmmaker continued his relationship with the streamer following the success of the film, creating a number of series based on classic literary works such as The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and The Fall of the House of Usher.

As per TV Line, Flanagan recently made an appearance on the ‘Book to Script to Screen’ panel at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, Texas, and spoke about the many articles on the internet that break down all the Easter eggs that can be found in his various streaming offerings. While he says that those pieces are usually pretty good, there’s still one egg in The Fall of the House of Usher that eagle-eyed fans have yet to discover. Check out his comments below.

“There is something we put in that someday, I want someone to organically see it.
There’s a moment in Usher that no one’s ever [noticed]
. And people put these articles where they were breaking down all the Edgar Allan Poe references which were really, there was one or two in there that I was like, ‘Oh, really? Yeah, totally. We worked really hard on that.’
There’s one in particular that none of those articles caught
.”

There have been as many as 14 or more Easter eggs that fans have managed to spot in The Fall of the House of Usher thus far, but Flanagan isn’t giving up what has yet to be found. He says that “someday” it’s sure to be spotted, but he doesn’t want to spoil the fun.

“Someday, someone will get it. But I don’t want to ruin it.”

Mike Flanagan’s Post-Netflix Era is in Full Swing

Following the success of his first two feature films, Absentia (2011), and Oculus (2013), Mike Flanagan began a fruitful partnership with Netflix, releasing Hush, and Before I Wake on the streaming platform in 2016. He would follow those up with Gerald’s Game in 2017, and the TV series The Haunting of Hill House in 2018. Its incredible reception was enough to earn Flanagan and his producing partner, Trevor Macy, a multi-year deal with Netflix for a number of TV shows, which officially concluded with the release of The Fall of the House of Usher in 2023.

Now, Flanagan and Macy have entered into a new deal with Prime Video which will see them continue to develop a number of projects for Amazon, and while their first outing has yet to be officially announced, Flanagan has been tapped to direct the next adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, a series that in the past he has called his “dream project.” There’s no word on if/when the series might debut on Prime Video, as it is still in the early stages of development.

Still, Flanagan is as busy as ever, and is currently in post-production on his next film, which is an adaptation of the Stephen King story, The Life of Chuck. The writer/director has also signed on to create the next film in The Exorcist franchise for Blumhouse, following the departure of director David Gordon Green after the disaster that was The Exorcist: Believer. Flanagan’s ‘radical new take’ on the series will be an all-new story, and not a sequel to the 2023 film.
