Major airport with a ghost on the runway is one of most haunted in places in Britain | UK | News

Britain’s busiest airport regularly sees through millions of passengers every day jetting off all over the world for business and pleasure.

But one unlucky passenger is said to be stuck searching for his lost bag for all eternity after being killed in a catastrophic air incident over 60 years ago.

Ghost watchers have long claimed Heathrow Airport has become home to the spirit of one of the victims of a March 1948 crash that cost the lives of 19 people their lives.

On the fateful foggy night, a Douglas D3 plane crashed and burned completely as it landed at Heathrow, then the London Airport.

An article in The Western Morning News read: “Nineteen people burned to death when a Dakota nosedived, exploded, and burst into flames at London Airport last night.

“Three people were rescued. Three of the crew are among the dead. The plane, operated by the Sabena Company, had earlier, while flying from Brussels, warned the airport that it might have to make an emergency landing.

“Doctors, nurses, traffic girls, firetenders, and ambulances rushed to the scene with first aid and bandages, but could do little good in the raging heat.”

Airport employee Angus Brown was among the first people to arrive at the crash scene and reported hearing loud screams as passengers tried to free themselves from their seatbelts.

Bizarre London author David Long wrote that rescue workers claimed to have spoken to a man asking for help in finding his briefcase – only to discover the same man’s body in the wreckage.

Mr Long claimed the man’s ghost had since been spotted on several occasions haunting Heathrow’s runway looking for his missing bag.

He cited an incident in 197- when the airport’s radar office reported picking up a signal suggesting a person was on the runway.

Airport police and a fire truck were dispatched to the scene accompanied by a spooked radar office employee but found nothing when they arrived.

Reports of the Heathrow ghost spotting come as no surprise as the London airport was named one of the most haunted locations in the whole of Britain.

A study from holiday search engine Holidu in 2021 looked at search for the UK most haunted destinations – and found Heathrow was the fourth-most popular in the country.
