Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Deppwill star as Satan alongside Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges as God inThe Carnival at the End of Days, director Terry Gilliam has confirmed. Speaking recently with Premiere magazine, Gilliam confirmed the casting of God and Satan in the movie, as well as revealing that Aquaman and Dune star Jason Momoa and Star Wars and The Man Who Killed Don Quixote actor Adam Driver have also joined the project.

We reported at the end of last year how Gilliam wanted to reunite with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas star Johnny Depp in The Carnival at the End of Days, with the director also teasing the plot of the movie.

“God wipes out humanity and the only character who wants to save them is Satan, and Johnny Depp plays Satan.

“This is a simple tale of God wiping out humanity for f—ing up his beautiful garden Earth. There’s only one character who’s trying to save humanity and that’s Satan, because without humanity he’s lost his job and he’s an eternal character and so to live without a job is terrible. So he finds some young people and he tries to convince God that these young people are the new Adam and Eve. God still gets to wipe out humanity. It’s a comedy.”

Jeff Bridges Will Star as a Different Sort of God in the Carnival at the End of Days

While Depp has been tapped for the role of Satan since the end of last year, this is the first we’ve heard of Jeff Bridges’ involvement in the movie. Best known for roles in the likes of Tron, The Big Lebowski, True Grit, and Crazy Heart, Bridges will play God in The Carnival at the End of Days, with Gilliam revealing to Premiere how the depiction of the deity will differ from previous incarnations.

“He won’t be the God we’re used to. In the film, God is nature. But a nature that can speak to you … I’m going to need animation to bring it to life, because in the scene with God, there are at least 15 animals. And it’s going to be complicated, because it has to be realistic And it’s going to be very expensive.”
