Jeremy Renner Says Avengers Cast Love Isn’t Just for Instagram: ‘We F*ckin’ Hate That’

Jeremy Renner Says Avengers Cast Love Isn't Just for Instagram: 'We F*ckin’ Hate That'

Summary

  • Jeremy Renner confirms his strong familial bond with his Avengers co-stars, crediting their connection as genuine and not just for social media.
  • Renner praises his MCU co-stars for their love and support during his recovery from a snow plow accident in early 2023.
  • Despite struggling with “challenging” roles post-accident, Renner remains determined to return to playing Hawkeye in the future.

Jeremy Renner has nothing but love for his Avengers co-stars, and said that their familial bond is real and not just a stunt for social media. Renner plays Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the MCU, who first appeared in 2011’s Thor. Since his first appearance, Hawkeye has become an integral member of the Avengers, and finally helmed a standalone adventure in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. Jeremy Renner is currently recovering from a snow plow accident in early 2023, which left the actor in a critical condition. Renner is now back on his feet and working again, and praises his MCU co-stars for their love and support during the difficult time.

Renner recently appeared on the cover of Men’s Health in an article discussing his long recovery following the accident. During the interview, Jeremy Renner touched upon his bond with his Marvel co-stars (including Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and Mark Ruffalo). The group have known each other for 12 years, and Renner confirmed their friendship is as true as fans hope it is, and isn’t just for show. Renner said:

Oh, f*ck yeah, it’s a real thing — it’s not just for Instagram.
We f*ckin’ hate that sh*t. We have a family chat and have for a long time. When you work with people — look,
we all went through a culturally significant experience together
. And there’s divorces and marriages and babies; a lot of stuff happened in these 12 years.”

Jeremy Renner couldn’t stop expressing his love for his found family. The actor described his relationship with his co-stars as being on par with a brother or sister. He continued:

“In the films, we look like we’re at a costume party, and there’s ridiculous props and we’re doing these ridiculous things, but it’s also beautiful because we’re all connected.
There’s a brotherhood or sisterhood or whatever the heck you want to call it.
I just call it love. I love every one of them.
I’d rather go to jail with Downey than go do something amazing by myself.
I’d rather get in a car crash with Evans.”

Jeremy Renner Is Struggling With “Challenging” Roles

The actor returned to set earlier this year for the third season of Mayor of Kingstown. While the actor gave the production his all, he has admitted that the accident has taken a serious toll on his energy levels, and how much he can give to a production. Renner said:

“I just don’t have the energy for it. I don’t have the fuel.
I have so much fuel to put into this reality
, this body… all this stuff. I can’t just go play make-believe right now, because that takes a lot of time to get right here every day just so I can have a positive thought — so I can progress, so I can always keep growing.”

While the actor still needs a lot of time before he can return to the heavier, more exhausting roles he was once known for, Renner is determined to get there. Jeremy Renner is best known for his tenure as Hawkeye in the MCU, a character who hasn’t been seen since the Hawkeye series. While the show hasn’t been renewed for a second season yet, Renner said he’s always open to returning as Hawkeye in the future, and is determined to get strong enough to play the character in the future.
