According to Deadline, Jackman will lead the project alongside The Bikeriders and Emmy Award winner Jodie Comer, with the project all set to be helmed by Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski.

You can check out the synopsis for The Death of Robin Hood, which comes courtesy of the report, below. Let the comparisons to 2017’s Logan commence…

“Set of its time, the film will see the title character grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, a battleworn loner who finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation.”

The Death of Robin Hood will go to market at this month’s Cannes Festival from WME Independent, with the movie counting Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett of Ryder Picture Company and Alexander Black from Lyrical Media among its producing team. Production on The Death of Robin Hood is expected to begin next February.

Director Michael Sarnoski has released a statement, in which he says he cannot wait to “reinvent” the story of Robin Hood, the outlaw who famously steals from the rich to give to the poor.

“It has been an incredible opportunity to reinvent and freshly innovate the story we all know of Robin Hood. Securing the perfect cast to transform the script to screen was essential. I could not be more thrilled and trusting in Hugh and Jodie to bring this story to life in a powerful and meaningful way.”

The Death of Robin Hood Is Not the Story of the Beloved Outlaw We’ve All Come to Know

Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett, meanwhile, promised that this would not be the same Robin Hood that audiences are familiar with.

“This is not the story of Robin Hood we’ve all come to know. Instead, Michael has crafted something far more grounded and visceral. Thanks to Alexander Black and our friends at Lyrical along with Rama and Michael, the world is going to love seeing Hugh and Jodie together in this epic.”

Before wielding a bow and arrow as Robin Hood, Hugh Jackman will first return to the world of Marvel as Wolverine in this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Thanks to the most recent trailer, we now know that the MCU outing will follow Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With a Mouth on an adventure across the multiverse when he is tasked with saving the franchise as we know it.
