How To Survive The Quarry

How To Survive The Quarry

The Quarry is a difficult and dangerous area in Tunic that has a lot of enemies and some health-draining crystals to worry about. This area is technically accessible at the start of the game, but players will likely be unable to survive for long without the proper equipment. The Quarry is where players will find the blue gem in Tunic, and it’s also the most difficult gem to obtain. Before attempting the Quarry, players must ring both belltowers and collect the red and green gems.

It is possible to miss weapons and equipment while adventuring through Tunic‘s open world, so some backtracking or further exploration may be necessary when preparing for the Quarry. There are a few types of enemies to worry about in the Quarry, including snipers and bombers. The ranged attackers will try to stay away from the fox and shoot at a distance, so getting close enough for melee attacks with the sword can be difficult. It’s recommended that players wait until they have ranged magic attacks to make defeating enemies in the Quarry easier.

Acquire Tunic’s Magic Staff Before Entering The Quarry

Ranged Attacks

Tunic How to Survive the Quarry Magic Staff

There are a few different magic items in Tunic to unlock. The magic staff in Tunic can be acquired after ringing both bell towers. When the Sealed Temple opens up, players will learn that they need three gems, one of which can be obtained by going through the Quarry.

However, before attempting to complete the Quarry, players should follow the secret path through the Sealed Temple to reach the magic staff. From the large structure where the three gems have pedestals, players can go right and follow the path up and out of the Sealed Temple. Once outside, players can follow the path forward to reach a ladder.

There is an enemy waiting at the top of the ladder, but it can be easily defeated with some quick melee combat. Next, players can go left until they find a large golden block sticking out of the ground. There are two grapple points on either side and a magic staff at the top of the steps.

As soon as the fox walks up to it, the magic staff will be added to the inventory. It must be equipped to one of the three gear slots to use. The magic staff shoots balls of energy from a distance, which is excellent for fighting snipers and bombers in the Quarry.

Upgrade The Fox’s Magic In Tunic

More Is Better

Tunic All Upgrade Items & How to Use Them Offering to Fox Statue

Like many aspects,, upgrading is hidden in Tunic and is found inside the instruction booklet. Players can upgrade the fox’s health, potion, attack, defense, stamina, and magic stats in Tunic using specific items found in chests. Magic can be upgraded by offering a blue mushroom to the fox statue and paying the fee. Since players will likely need the magic staff to get through the Quarry, it’s recommended that they also increase their magic meter.

The Quarry is an extended area to get through, with an even more dangerous place that follows, but having a lot of magic available will help. Players can also save their berries from the beginning of Tunic to replenish magic while exploring the Quarry.

Understanding the Quarry

Life-Draining Crystals

The fox avoiding a damage beam in Tunic

The real danger of the Quarry is the life-draining crystals that will drain the player’s life to zero. There is only one way to mitigate this damage, and you will still have to traverse past them to get the item that will help. This can make it fairly easy to die from enemy attacks, particularly ones that come from snipers.

Additionally, if you enter the Quarry from the wrong place, there is no checkpoint at that entrance that will allow you to restart there. Instead, you might find yourself traversing the Overworld multiple times to get back if you die. This can make it extremely frustrating to keep wandering into the Quarry to get that gem.

The entrance from the main hub using the magic orb is the one with the checkpoint.

There is some discussion about which direction is better, but either way can be quite frustrating. The Mountain Pass entrance will be more difficult to navigate but puts you closer to the Monastery, which will be handy in the next section. However, the hidden entrance underneath the blocked entrance can be accessed using the Magic Orb and will be easier to navigate. It’s a matter of choice, but that choice can make a fair amount of difference.

Find The Scavenger’s Mask

Crystal Protection

Depending on what entrance is used to get to the Quarry, players may notice two main paths. There’s one that leads to the top and inside the monastery and another that leads deeper into the Quarry. Heading north first will help players acquire the Scavenger’s Mask, an ability card that negates health-draining crystals.

Ability cards are special items in a player’s inventory, and multiple slots can be added by throwing enough gold coins into the wells scattered around the overworld. To obtain the Scavenger’s Mask ability card, players will need to get through the top half of the Quarry and make it into the monastery. To see exactly how to get there, check out Furo‘s video.

Accessing the Quarry from the snowy mountain area is the easiest way to find the monastery. There will be some enemies to fight and a few health-draining crystals along the way. Players will also notice a save point at the top by the temple entrance, but a pool of water surrounds it, which is inaccessible.

Past the save point, players can enter the monastery and defeat a few more enemies. The chest at the other end of the room will contain the Scavenger Mask. Players can then equip the ability card from the inventory screen and will no longer be affected by the health-draining crystals in the Quarry.

Use Tunic’s Invincibility Feature

No Damage

Tunic Beginner’s Tips, Tricks, and Strategies Invincibility

Even with the Scavenger’s Mask, there are some areas of the Quarry that can be difficult to get through. There are a lot of enemies to fight, and the difficulty level will also depend on how much players have upgraded their health, attack, and other stats in Tunic. If all else fails and players are still struggling with this difficult section, Tunic does have an invincibility feature that can be turned on or off at any time.

Invincibility and unlimited stamina can be found in the accessibility portion of the settings menu. Turning on the No Fail Mode and No Stamina Restrictions options will allow players to complete the Quarry without constantly dying. The crystals will still drain the fox’s maximum health bar, but they won’t do any actual damage.

Even if a player’s max health gets drained down to one hit, the No Fail Mode will keep the fox from dying. The Quarry is one of the harder areas to complete in Tunic, so players should use invincibility if they’re having trouble progressing.
