Horror Icons Get Pixar Makeover in AI Fan Art

Summary

  • The unlikely combination of Pixar animation and horror movie icons creates almost lovable characters in a whole new way.
  • Xenomorph and Pennywise are reimagined as Disney Villains, elevating the source material in a fun twist.
  • New projects featuring Xenomorphs and Pennywise as their original terrifying selves are on the way, along with the return of Ghostface.

The world of AI-art loves to throw up some intriguing possibilities when it comes to which unlikely movie franchises could get a Pixar-style art makeover. As one of the most popular AI-assisted requests when it comes to art generation, regular contributor The-ai-dreams has been dipping into the “what if” bucket and pulled out the unlikely combination of Pixar animation and horror movie icons, including new looks for Ridley Scott’s Alien and Stephen King’s Pennywise.

From skin-mask-wearing Leatherface, through scarred dream demon Freddy Krueger, to the child-eating clown Pennywise, the series of images shared on Instagram have once again reimagined the most unlikely characters as almost lovable characters that you would be happy leaving your children in the company of in front of the TV while you go to make dinner. Losing their nightmare edge opens up many possibilities that we will never actually get to see, but then again, stranger things have happened. Check out the images below.

While many of the characters still maintain the air of villainy about them, it is definitely subdued to a “Disney Villain” level. There is something about seeing Xenomorph enjoying a cup of coffee with a full grinning set of human teeth on show that just really elevates the source material in a whole new way.

Which Horror Icons Are Returning Soon?

While work on the new Friday the 13th series, Crystal Lake, seems to be stalled, and new outings for the likes of Freddy Kruger, Leatherface, and Hannibal Lecter seem a distant prospect, some of the characters depicted in these images will be getting new outings as their original terrifying selves.

The Xenomorphs will be reminding people that in space (and on Earth), no one can hear you scream again in two new projects that are well on the way to being released. The first of these is Fede Álvarez’s new movie, Alien: Romulus, which will reportedly combine the claustrophobia atmosphere of Ridley Scott’s 1979 movie with the action sequences of James Cameron’s 1986 follow-up. Additionally, a new TV series set on Earth 30 years before Alien is also in production with creator Noah Hawley looking to develop another expansion of the franchise’s mythology.

In the decade where everything was bigger—hair, music, movie budgets—these ’70s horror films were considerable flops at the box office.

Stephen King’s iconic killer clown Pennywise will also be returning soon in an It prequel series entitled Welcome to Derry, which will see Bill Skarsgård once again donning the guise of the eater of worlds in a brand new expansion of the evil entity’s past. The first trailer teased a return to the seemingly normal town of Derry that frequently finds itself subjected to supernatural horrors thanks to King, and it is shaping up to be a highly anticipated offering thanks to the recent reveal of Skarsgård’s involvement after his impeccably unhinged performance in Andy Muschietti’s two-part movie.

And then, of course, there is the return of Ghostface coming in Scream VII. While 2022’s Scream revived the Wes Craven-created meta-horror franchise, and Scream VI proved a more than worth sequel, the seventh Scream movie has been undergoing some unexpected changes thanks to the loss of its two lead stars and its director. This has paved the way for the return of Neve Campbell to face to Ghostface again after she abandoned the previous installment over a pay dispute. The new Scream movie has been getting a new script, but currently does not have a release date.
