‘He’s a Vision Only Louis Sees’

'He's a Vision Only Louis Sees'

Summary

  • Sam Reid discusses Lestat de Lioncourt’s presence in Season 2 of
    Interview with the Vampire,
    calling the vampire “Dream-stat.”
  • Expect a big “f—ing twist” in Season 2 that doesn’t happen in author Anne Rice’s source material.
  • Death won’t stop Lestat; the vengeful vampire appears as a haunting memory in visions only Louis can see, through flashbacks and in Paris, as revealed in a brand-new preview of Season 2.

Louis knew exactly what he was doing when refusing to burn Lestat’s body during the Season 1 finale of Interview with the Vampire. Fans of the AMC series watched as immortals Louis de Pointe du Lac — portrayed by former Game of Thrones star Jacob Anderson — and Claudia (Bailey Bass) seemingly murdered Sam Reid’s Lestat de Lioncourt. However, there will be plenty of Lestat sightings in Season 2 of the vampire drama. And Reid teased how Lestat returns during a new interview with TV Insider:

“We call him Dream-stat.
There was a lot of negotiation about
what we were going to show of [Lestat], pre-Louis.
Before he became a vampire,
he was an actor onstage in Paris.
I suppose everyone’s seen the trailer now, so
you do get the idea that there’s going to be some 1700s Paris plot that turns up.”

Diehards of the late Anne Rice’s 1976 source material already know Lestat’s fate: Expect to see him at the Théâtre des Vampires in Paris. However, with the liberties the AMC show took in Season 1, it’s nice to have reassurances from Reid of Lestat’s participation in Season 2. The actor continued:

“Once he starts getting vampiric powers
he realizes there’s a whole other world out there that
he wants to go and explore.
And he is pretty fickle, so
whether or not he lasts as an actor very long after becoming a vampire is a longer story.
But at the start, he has very specific reasons for starting that theater company.

Very, very specific reasons.”

Lestat is a ‘Vision Only Louis Sees’ in Season 2

“Memory is the monster” in Season 2 of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire. However, Lestat (Reid) isn’t going to let a little thing like death slow him down. The vampire can clearly be “seen” — his arm at least — within his coffin at the dump to conclude his storyline in Season 1. And he’s snatching up a blood-filled rat to feed on in order to continue healing from Louis and Claudia’s murderous plan.

Plus, Reid has also revealed, courtesy of a brand-new preview of Season 2 (below), that Lestat appears as “a vision only Louis sees,” because of the guilt the vampire feels over de Lioncourt’s apparent demise. And in a separate interview, Reid even teases “a really f—ing cool twist in this season.” Reid said in an interview with GamesRadar+:

“There’s
a really f—ing cool twist in this season that is not in the books
that I struggled with because
I was like, ‘This is different, and I’m not sure.’
But actually, you can justify it because when you look at the books and look at the way that they come out, and what happens in subsequent books after season one,
there is a level of an unreliable element.
You don’t always have to know the truth, because
Anne Rice never really tells you the truth.
She likes to change it up a bit.”

So, expect to see plenty of the future Brat Prince in flashbacks, as a haunting source of pain for Louis and among the actual events which unfold at the Théâtre des Vampires in Paris.
