“The marriage of large-scale action spectacle with an emotionally resonant, character driven story was very effective, and left audiences wanting to know what happens next. Directed by Ric Roman Waugh and starring Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Roger Dale Floyd, Roman Griffin Davis, Amber Rose Revah, and Trond Fausa Aurvåg, the official synopsis for Greenland: Migration teases difficult times ahead for John Garrity.

“In the film, the Garrity family, having found the safety of the Greenland bunker after the comet Clarke decimated the Earth, must risk everything to embark on a harrowing journey across the wasteland of Europe to find a new home.”

Greenland: Migration is currently filming in the United Kingdom, with several images from set revealing Butler back in the role of a now post-apocalyptic survivor. You can check out some images from filming below and more courtesy of the BBC.

Returning director Ric Roman Waugh has offered some detailed insight into the direction of Greenland: Migration. Following the first movie, which was released back in December 2020, Greenland begins when scientists discover that fragments of a comet will hit Earth in a few days and will likely cause the extinction of humanity. The only hope of survival is to take shelter in a group of bunkers in Greenland, with the story following a family who must fight for survival as they make their way to salvation before the comet collides with the planet.

Greenland ends with the Garrity family leaving the safety of the bunker to face the new world. And it sounds like that will be no easy task

“It’ll be about who survived, and how did they rebuild the earth when everything was completely burned to the ground. So it’s a beautiful kind of way to give you a conclusion of the Garritys and where they go. So, do you call it a sequel? Yeah, but to me, it’s more of the final chapter of what this story has to say.”

Greenland: Migration
has not yet been given a premiere date, but is expected to be released either later this year or in early 2025.
