  • Ewan McGregor surprises fans at a 25th anniversary screening of
Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace
    in Atlanta.

    Star Wars
stories and hopes for future projects: “I love doing it.”
  • The Phantom Menace
reaps box office success over the weekend and lands the No. 2 spot at the domestic box office.

Hello there, Georgia! Star Wars Day has come and gone, but the celebration continues and not just for the fans. Over the weekend, the special 25th anniversary screenings of Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace coincided with May the Fourth Be with You. And Obi-Wan Kenobi himself, Ewan McGregor, joined in the festivities by showing up at one of The Phantom Menace events. Check out a photo of McGregor at the cinema below, courtesy of @StarWarsExplain:

McGregor showed up at the Plaza Theatre, which was founded in 1939, and is the oldest indie cinema still operating in Atlanta, Georgia. While there wasn’t much information accompanying the post, McGregor can clearly be seen standing at the front of the auditorium, microphone in hand and smiling in front of the many fans in attendance. It’s easy for a Star Wars fan to hear the actor saying, “Hello there,” with Obi-Wan’s trademark inflection. Perhaps that’s how he addressed the crowd upon his arrival.

After portraying the Jedi in all three of George Lucas’ Star Wars prequels, McGregor returned to reprise the role in the Disney+ six-episode series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. And he hopes the opportunity to play the Jedi Master presents itself again. McGregor said in an interview with LADbible:

“I love doing it.
I hope we get a chance to do another one,
and I’m sure we will.
I’m pretty sure, you know? I’ve got a few years yet before
I’m the same age as Alec Guinness was
in A New Hope.
So, there’s time to tell more stories in there.”

Ewan McGregor Is ‘Very Pleased’ Fans Like Obi-Wan Kenobi

Ewan McGregor undoubtedly surprised those in attendance at the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta, but the 25th anniversary screenings of Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace also did some astonishing of its own. With the exception of The Fall Guy, which was No. 1, Phantom Menace made the most money of any other film domestically this weekend with $8.1 million. Will that translate to more Obi-Wan Kenobi adventures on the small or big screen? McGregor said in the same interview with LADbible:

“The truth is I’ve talked about having to
cover for doing the Obi-Wan season for years.
I had to lie about that and I’m not lying about this now. I don’t know.
There’s been no phone call to me from Lucasfilm, or Disney saying, ‘Let’s do another one.’
Obi-Wan was made as a limited series and it’s out and people like it, which
I’m very, very pleased about.”

May the Fourth Be with You as fans are treated to a brand-new trailer, artwork and a glimpse of a red lightsaber-wielding figure.

Currently, Obi-Wan’s return remains in limbo, but fans can stream or binge-watch McGregor’s latest series, A Gentleman in Moscow on Paramount+, which MovieWeb’s review calls “a whimsical yet somewhat hollow offering based on Amor Towles’ best-selling book.”
