Every Upcoming Pixar Movie & TV Show

With nearly 30 years of feature filmmaking, the upcoming Pixar movies prove that the animation studio shows no signs of slowing down. Back in 1995, Pixar completely revolutionized animation in Hollywood with the release of Toy Story, the industry’s first computer-animated feature film. Its success helped propel Pixar to becoming one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed animation studios, leading all the way up to their latest batch of movies hitting both theaters and, in some cases, exclusively on Disney+ streaming.

It has been an interesting few years for Pixar. With the pandemic making theatrical releases questionable and the rise of streaming services, several of their releases have forgone the theatrical route and debuted directly on Disney+. Meanwhile, the box office failure of Lightyear proved that viewers weren’t always going to be on board with Pixar, even with its most recognizable properties. Recent Pixar movies have been a mixed bag, but the studio looks to recapture its former acclaim and box office success with a string of upcoming Pixar movies that balance a return of popular franchise and original ideas.

Elio – June 13, 2025

A Science Fiction Adventure Film Featuring Aliens

In terms of upcoming Pixar movies, Elio‘s story is an original concept and looks to be a lavish, visually stunning sci-fi adventure. The 2025 science fiction adventure film revolves around an 11-year-old boy, Elio, who is mistaken for Earth’s ambassador after being transported across the universe. With Coco director Adrian Molina at the helm, and Turning Red‘s Domee Shi also involved, Elio will undoubtedly pull on the heartstrings while showing how a kid handles a truly fish-out-of-water situation. Yonas Kibreab voices the lead character, and the role of his mother will be voiced by Barbie‘s America Ferrera.

Pixar has tried sci-fi storytelling before with Lightyear and WALL-E, and although the reactions to Lightyear were mixed, WALL-E was extremely well received as some rank it among the top Pixar films. However, Elio sounds like a fun and original idea. The movie is slated for a June 13, 2025, release date, so fans will have to wait almost a year after the release of Inside Out 2 to watch the next film (given that the upcoming sci-fi film isn’t delayed again).

Toy Story 5 – June 19, 2026

The Fifth Installment Of The Toy Story Film Series

All upcoming Pixar movies are made possible by Toy Story kicking things off in 1995. Toy Story 5 confirms the universe’s importance to the animation studio and its unwillingness to let it go (since Toy Story 4 was supposed to be the franchise’s final film). However, this is not the first time Pixar seemed to have ended its Toy Story series, only to come back again. Many felt that Toy Story 3‘s ending was a perfect conclusion, but then Toy Story 4 premiered and said goodbye to Woody. Nevertheless, Woody and Buzz will return in the upcoming fifth installment.

Given the lukewarm reception to Lightyear, it makes sense that Pixar would return to one of its most iconic characters and the original actor to undo some of that damage. Unfortunately, not much is known about Toy Story 5‘s story. Woody’s return suggests that Pixar is willing to abandon emotionally satisfying stories (like Woody’s farewell in the fourth film) to milk the franchise for all it is worth. It is also rumored that Andy could return to the franchise, which would also undo his perfect ending in Toy Story 3.

Untitled Pixar Movie From Luca’s Enrico Casarosa – No Release Date

A New Original Story

It is confirmed that Luca director Enrico Casarosa is developing a new movie for Pixar. Pete Docter confirmed the film is in development in June 2024 during an interview with EW to promote Inside Out 2. Docter did not reveal much information about the movie, but he revealed its existence while discussing Pixar’s priority to give diverse filmmakers more opportunities at the studio. The only tease provided is that Casarosa’s new Pixar movie is “just night and day” in terms of what the director is bringing to the film.

The announcement came almost three years to the day that Luca debuted. Despite releasing exclusively on Disney Plus, the film was a major critical success, earning a 91% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. Pixar was clearly thrilled with Luca‘s success, especially as it was the most streamed movie of 2021 according to Nielson (via Deadline). While not confirmed, Casarosa’s new original movie for Pixar should receive an exclusive theatrical release this time around.

Finding Nemo 3 – No Release Date

A Third Film Is Reportedly In Development

Pixar has yet to officially confirm its intentions to make Finding Nemo 3 by giving it a release date, but the film is reportedly in development. A Bloomberg article from May 2024 noted that another entry in the Finding Nemo franchise was likely to be made. Pete Docter briefly responded to the speculation when EW asked him if Finding Nemo was a franchise Pixar was exploring returning to. He said, “For sure. It’s open… The ocean’s a big place.” But, he suggests the film’s official announcement depends on finding the deeper question and story it will explore.

Incredibles 3 – No Release Date

Another Sequel Is Likely Coming

Pixar is poised to return to the superhero world of the Incredibles franchise with another installment too. The studio has not officially confirmed that Incredibles 3 is happening, but Pixar President Jim Morris’ conversation with Bloomberg included suggestions that this is a property that will return. When EW asked Pete Docter about the chances for the franchise continuing with a sequel movie or Disney+ show, he said, “That feels like it definitely has more to play with.” Franchise director Brad Bird has so far not announced his return for another installment.

Monsters Inc. 2 – No Release Date

A Direct Sequel Is Wanted

Although this is another unconfirmed movie to be in development, Pixar is openly discussing its desire to make a Monsters, Inc. sequel. The studio already made a prequel, Monsters University, as they failed to get a true continuation of Mike and Sully’s story off the ground. Monsters, Inc. 2 has yet to be formally announced, but Docter told EW, “We’ve been searching for ideas for a Monsters, Inc. sequel for a long time.” The bad news is that he also suggested the right idea has not emerged so far that warranted starting work in any major capacity.

Every Upcoming Pixar TV Show

Pixar Has Been Delving Into The TV Format

Pixar does have a few confirmed TV shows in the works. Win or Lose is set to be the studio’s first original series, and it is slated for a debut on Disney+ in 2024. Pixar also is officially developing an Inside Out spinoff TV show. The idea for the show is based around Dream Productions, the movie production unit in Riley’s mind that creates her dreams from the first movie. Dream Productions does not have an official release date.
