The Hurt Locker

Stream on May 1

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker is a wartime thriller about Staff Sergeant William James (Jeremy Renner), who is part of a U.S. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team with Bravo Company during the beginning of the Iraq War. New to the team, James finds himself at odds with his new squad as a result of his radical and risky moves on the battlefield.

Arguably one of the greatest war films of the 21st century, The Hurt Locker examines the effects of war on the human psyche and the drug-like impact it can have on soldiers who continue to return to the frontlines. The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards and took home six, including Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture. The Hurt Locker is streaming on Peacock on May 1.

Step Brothers

Stream on May 1

Step Brothers is a hilarious comedy starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as two middle-aged men who still live at home with their respective parents. Neither have amounted to much, but their parents love them, nonetheless, and continue to support their arrested development. When Brennan’s (Ferrell) mom marries Dale’s (Reilly) dad, the pair are forced to live under one roof and immediately despise one another.

However, when the pair realize they have more in common than they think, the stepbrothers quickly become “best friends.” Full of classic antics and one-liners thanks to Ferrell and Reilly, Step Brothers delivers a ridiculous premise with plenty of worthy laughs. The film also stars Mary Steenburgen, Richard Jenkins, Adam Scott, and Kathryn Hahn. Step Brothers is streaming on Peacock on May 1.
