Although it’s the beginning of spring and Halloween is months away, Shudder never ceases to deliver scares. No matter the season, the streaming service provides much-needed spooks to horror fans all year round, and next month is no different. Those who immerse themselves in scary stories beyond the confines of the fall’s spooky season should look no further than Shudder and its slew of options headed to the platform next month.



No matter what a viewer’s preference for horror films might be, there are plenty of offerings to suit everyone’s taste. The selections include a found footage-style film, a classic throwback to ’70s and ’80s-style horror, and plenty of unsettling supernatural spooks that would rattle some of the most dedicated horror fans. As April quickly approaches, Shudder has something for anyone who enjoys the creepier things in life.



Drag Me to Hell

Directed by Sam Raimi, Drag Me to Hell follows Christine (Alison Lohman), a loan officer whose aspirations to land the assistant manager position lead her to reject an older woman’s request for an extension on her mortgage. As a result, the woman is evicted from her home. Christine then becomes the recipient of a supernatural curse. As she works to break the curse, she encounters a slew of evil forces who do everything in their power to torment her before she’s possibly dragged to hell to burn for all eternity. Drag Me to Hell is streaming on Shudder on Apr. 1.


Emelie

Emelie follows a babysitter named Emelie (Sarah Bolger), hired by a couple at the last minute on the night of their anniversary. Despite not knowing much about her, the couple leaves their three children in her care following her high recommendations. However, unbeknownst to them, Emelie quickly subjects the children to sick and twisted activities.

As the children begin to distrust her, Emelie ramps up her nefarious actions, and the truth about who she is comes into question. When the parents are unable to reach Emelie on the phone, they eventually suspect something is wrong. However, their concern might come too late. Emelie is streaming on Shudder on Apr. 4.

Baghead

Baghead follows Iris (Freya Allan), who inherits a run-down pub after her estranged father’s death. Within its basement, she discovers a shape-shifting creature that allows a person to speak with deceased loved ones by transforming into them for two minutes. Like her father, Iris is tempted to make some quick cash while helping those grieving.


However, such a “gift” doesn’t come without steep consequences if the two-minute rule is broken. After an encounter with the entity goes awry, Iris and her best friend Katie (Ruby Barker) must figure out how to destroy the creature before it destroys them. Baghead is streaming on Shudder on Apr. 5.

Late Night with the Devil

Late Night With the Devil is a found footage film that follows Jack Delroy (David Dastmalchian), the host of a fictional 1970s variety and late-night talk show titled Night Owls with Jack Delroy. On Halloween night in 1977, Delroy interviews Dr. June Ross-Mitchell (Laura Gordon), a parapsychologist and the subject of her recent book, Lilly D’Abo (Ingrid Torelli), a teenager who was the only survivor of a Satanic cult’s mass suicide.

With the show on the cusp of failing, the late-night host attempts to push the boundaries beyond anything anyone has ever seen. The House of the Devil (2009)

Written and directed by Ti West, The House of the Devil takes place in 1983 and follows Samantha (Jocelin Donahue), a college student whose financial struggles lead her to take a strange babysitting job that happens to coincide with a full lunar eclipse. Despite her friend Megan’s (Greta Gerwig) pleas, Samantha stays at the house in the middle of nowhere even after discovering the hiring couple lied about the nature of the job. Alone and with no way of escaping, she slowly begins to realize her clients are harboring a dark secret that ultimately puts her life in grave danger. Much in the style of West, the film pays homage to the dominant horror style of the ’70s and ’80s. The House of the Devil is streaming on Shudder on Apr. 22.


Infested

A Shudder Original, Infested is a French-language film that follows Kaleb (Théo Christine), a lonely, soon-to-be 30-year-old with a passion for exotic animals. Having cut ties with his best friend and arguing with his sister regarding their inheritance, Kaleb has never felt more desolate and isolated from everyone he cares about. After his passion leads him to bring home a venomous spider to fill the void, he accidentally allows it to escape. As a result, the residents of his apartment building are ultimately forced to combat an army of deadly spiders who seem to be rapidly reproducing. Infested is streaming on Shudder on Apr. 26.
