Finding Rakshasa’s Great Katana

Rakshasa’s Great Katana can be a hard weapon to find in Elden Ring, mostly because it is a tricky spot on the map. If you reach the Shadow Keep and make it about halfway through, there is a special ladder in the Shadow Keep that will take you down to a teleport coffin, and you will need to use it to get to the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum. The steps below outline how to do so:

1. Exit the water location where the Castle Watering Hole Site Of Grace is. Make sure to use it if you have not unlocked it already.
2. Head South, following the water on the right-hand side until you get to the waterfall.
3. Once at the waterfall, go to the left side where the Recluses’ River Upstream Site Of Grace is.
4. Continue heading South, staying to the left side of the canyon.
5. There will be a point where the two sides nearly meet, and this is where you will want to jump back to the right side and continue going South.
6. The next landmark is the Recluses’ River Downstream Site Of Grace, where you can rest and prepare.
7. Below are stepping stones in the shape of gravestones leading down toward the ground. Carefully hop down them, as you do not want to fall all the way down.
8. Follow along the water until you come to a cliff where the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum is sitting.

To see the exact path, you can use ConCon’s video for any confusing sections, such as where you have to cross to the other side of the canyon. Once you arrive, you will have to fight Rakshasa to earn his Great Sword.

Rakshasa is a Samurai-type boss who only has a few different moves. You will want to retreat occasionally and generally use a defensive stance. He is possible to evade, and his stance can be broken, so take the opportunities when they come and use your hard-won Elden Ring patience to finish him off, which will earn you his Great Katana.

Using Rakshasa’s Great Katana

All Weapons Stats & Level Scaling

This is not the only Great Katana introduced in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but it is the one that comes with blood-loss effects. Seeing as it hits quite hard, you will need to be at a fairly high level to wield this weapon in Elden Ring. However, the actual required stats are not as punishing as they are for the Anvil Hammer, as you need a minimum of 27 in Dexterity and 12 in Strength to be able to wield it effectively.

While it only scales in two attributes, it does get a level higher in each upon reaching Level 10, which is different from others. Many times, the secondary attributes do not continue to rise like the primary ones. Even without scaling, the Level 1 baseline damage is quite high, as shown below.

You can upgrade this weapon to Level 10 using Somber Smithing Stones, which can be found throughout the world of the Shadow Realm and in the base game areas as well. Once you do, the blade is an even more formidable weapon.

This is on top of its passive, which gives the blade a Hemorrhage stat of 55. Hemorrhage inflicts an extra 15% damage of a normal enemy’s max HP when it triggers; for most bosses, it will do 10.5%. This particular weapon will be quite good at causing the status effect and forcing enemies to bleed out while you can back off and heal yourself or prepare for the next round.

Like other new weapons, this one cannot be equipped with an Ash of War, but it comes with Weed Cutter. Weed Cutter costs 8 FP and allows you to swing your weapon like a scythe, and you may continue to use it until you run out of stamina. This allows you to cut through enemies like other weapons do not. This weapon is well worth anyone who has a good stat in Dexterity’s time, and a healthy Strength stat will only make it much more powerful.

Now that you have seen the stats, you can decide if it is worth the trek and whether the boss will fight to retrieve Rakshasa’s Great Katana. However, the ability to test this new weapon will be tempting for many, especially when paired with the matching armor you can get from Rakshasa. You will truly look like a Blood Knight in Elden Ring once you have gained Rakshasa’s Great Katana and upgraded it to its max.
