Summary
- After SEAL Team ends with season 7, David Boreanaz is working on a new show that will be drastically different from the Paramount+ drama.

- Boreanaz’s mentions of suits, style, and cars, as well as inspiration from The Sopranos, hints at the upcoming series that will differ greatly from SEAL Team.
David Boreanaz’s time on SEAL Team is almost over, but the actor already has a new show lined up that sounds drastically different from the Paramount+ drama. Despite SEAL Team season 6 being the perfect ending, the series scored an eleventh-hour renewal. However, SEAL Team season 7 will conclude the show. Ever since the news broke, there have been questions about Boreanaz’s next act. He’s had one of the steadiest careers since breaking through in Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1997 as a vampire-with-a-soul named Angel. The character’s popularity opened the door for Boreanaz to headline a spinoff that lasted five seasons.
Following Angel‘s conclusion in 2004, he switched things up with Bones, starring opposite Emily Deschanel in all 12 seasons until its 2017 ending. Later that year, he transitioned to SEAL Team, and his series regular role will wrap up this year when the final season airs. Boreanaz has had some excellent roles, but he isn’t slowing down. After playing a vampire, a special agent, and a Navy SEAL, he is poised to change direction with his next show.

7 Things That Need To Happen In SEAL Team Season 7 To Give The Show A Great Ending
SEAL Team season 7 marks the end of the beloved drama series, but several things need to happen to give the show a satisfying conclusion.
David Boreanaz’s New Show Sounds Like The Complete Opposite Of SEAL Team (& That’s Great)
David Boreanaz Has Played Jason Hayes For Seven Seasons
During the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, David Boreanaz revealed that he’s working on a new series as a writer but is unsure whether he’ll star in it. Many actors expand their careers by delving into writing and directing. Thanks to Boreanaz’s 27-year career in episodic television, he has gained first-hand experience of how television is produced. These skills will be useful to help get another series off the ground. Interestingly, Boreanaz is keeping story details about the project under wraps for now but admitted to watching “a lot of The Sopranos,” implying that the next project will be nothing like SEAL Team.
Recognizing that such an admission could make people think the show was about the mafia, the actor quickly clarified his inspiration stemmed from the HBO hit’s style instead of its plot. “You know what, I love suits, I love style, I love cars,” Boreanaz affirmed. It’s undoubtedly an intriguing tease but doesn’t give concrete information about the show. Given that SEAL Team doesn’t allow for much fashion because of the setting and the characters being thrust into deadly scenarios, the new series may have some similarities with one of Boreanaz’s former roles.
David Boreanaz Shows | Duration |
---|---|
Buffy the Vampire Slayer | 1997-1999 |
Angel | 1999-2004 |
Bones | 2005-2017 |
SEAL Team | 2017-2024 |
David Boreanaz’s New Show Tease Is Reminiscent Of His Past Roles
David Boreanaz Has Had Many Iconic Roles
One of Boreanaz’s most celebrated roles was Seeley Booth in Bones. Many procedurals have returned years after their climax, meaning there’s always an opportunity for the hit drama to stage a comeback. Bones was a popular series, so bringing it back would be a great way to revisit a beloved show. Plus, a Bones revival could also answer burning questions. However, given that Boreanaz is penning the script for his next vehicle, it probably won’t be a part of the Bones universe. Knowing he’s thinking more about cars, suits, and style means countless possibilities exist for his SEAL Team follow-up.
SEAL Team
season 7 is expected to premiere on Paramount+ in late 2024.
That said, Boreanaz could play an excellent fixer for the rich and famous, but Ray Donovan‘s success means it’s probably too soon for a similar series. A lawyer is another possibility, but until he gives confirmation, there’s plenty to ponder. After seven years as the main attraction on SEAL Team, watching what comes next for his career will be fun. Boreanaz has a knack for picking hit TV shows, so his career should continue to flourish if he picks another project that stands the test of time.

Why David Boreanaz’s New Show Sounds Better Than A Bones Reboot
Bones Ended In March 2017 After 12 Seasons
Since Boreanaz’s Fox police procedural comedy-drama was (and still is) such a popular show, many hope it will follow the recent reboot TV trend after Bones‘ cancelation after 12 seasons in 2017. However, a return to the world of Temperance Brennan and Seeley Booth isn’t necessary, at least right now, because of Boreanaz’s new show. Bones was on the air for over 11 years and produced almost 250 episodes, meaning it had enough time to tell its story. Meanwhile, the upcoming Sopranos-style series is fresh and interesting, making it ten times more exciting than a Bones reboot.
Reboots and revivals are flooding streaming services and networks, and the world doesn’t necessarily need another one (especially one of a show that lasted 12 seasons). It’s time for new stories, and although not much is known about Boreanaz’s future series, it already sounds better than Bones season 13 or a reboot. Plus, Boreanaz has a track record of successful TV series, and it’s easy to have faith that his next one will be a triumph, as well.

How David Boreanaz’s New Show Can Continue A TV Career Trend
David Boreanaz Has Starred In Many Long-Running Series
Given Boreanaz’s history, his next project should be able to continue the actor’s impressive trend of appearing in long-running, successful TV shows. Boreanaz broke big when he starred as Angel in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, resulting in his own spinoff series, Angel. He ultimately played Angel for seven years before transitioning to Bones, which, as mentioned above, lasted for 12 seasons. Directly following the Bones finale, Boreanaz secured the role of Jason Hayes in SEAL Team. Consequently, the actor’s record of starring in lengthy productions could easily continue with his next show after the SEAL Team finale.
