In a now-viral moment, Twins and Junior co-stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito reunited on the 2024 Oscars stage to present the award for Outstanding Editing. On stage, the two joked about having tried to kill Batman – DeVito portrayed Oswald Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin, in Tim Burton’s 1992 film Batman Returns, while Schwarzenegger was Mr. Freeze in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin (1997).
During a recent interview with Deadline, DeVito discussed how that Oscars reunion unfolded:
“Arnold and I love working together. We’re doing a movie together next year … We’ve been working on it … Since ‘

,’ and all the stuff we’ve done together, we’ve become friends. That came out of like, you know, they asked us to do the Oscars and I don’t know where the idea came from … We did both try to kill Batman, so that was fun.”
During the Oscars bit, the camera flashed to Michael Keaton in the audience, who starred as the caped crusader in Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns (George Clooney infamously starred as Batman in Batman & Robin). Noting Keaton’s participation, DeVito added:
“I don’t think Keaton was his Batman, but I got to try to kill Keaton, ’cause if you’ve ever met him, that’s the thing. You wanna just strangle him. Only as Oswald Cobblepot. If I’m honest, I love Michael. So that was totally a lot of fun, and the big highlight of the night was my tuxedo fit. It was really good to be out there with Arnold.”
As it turns out, Keaton and DeVito are sharing the screen in Burton’s anticipated Beetlejuice 2. The sequel’s recently released trailer revealed DeVito will make a cameo appearance in the film as a dead janitor. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice marks the fifth collaboration between DeVito and Burton, following Batman Returns, Mars Attacks!, Big Fish, and Dumbo.
Danny DeVito Still Wants Penguin Team-Up With Arnold Schwarzenegger to Take on Michael Keaton’s Batman
Danny DeVito has once again been suggesting that he should return to the world of Batman, and bring his old pal Arnie along for the ride.

While a DeVito and Schwarzenegger film reunion is in the works, DeVito hasn’t disclosed too many details surrounding the project:
“We really want to work together and we’ve been talking about it for quite a while. We’re onto something now, we have a script being written.” He added: “As soon as that comes in, we’ll know better. But we’ll do it at Warner Brothers, so there you go,”
Talks of a Twins sequel, reportedly titled Triplets, with Tracy Morgan set to star as the third sibling, were squashed after director Ivan Reichtman passed away in 2022. Reichtman directed DeVito and Schwarzenegger in their previous collaborations: 1988’s Twins, where the two played fraternal twin brothers separated at birth, and 1994’s Junior, which follows a scientist who agrees to undergo a male pregnancy. Both films were box office successes for the trio.
DeVito has several projects lined up before he reunites on the big screen with Schwarzenegger. He’ll star in Season 17 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the family comedy A Sudden Case of Christmas. His full cameo in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice can be seen beginning on September 6, 2024 when the film lands in theaters. Check out the trailer below.
