Danielle Radcliffe is currently starring on Broadway in the musical hit Merrily We Roll Along, and the actor recently opened up about which Harry Potter novel he’s looking forward to seeing the upcoming Max series adapt for television. Radcliffe appeared as the titular wizard in the original franchise, which began in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and concluded in 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. The series based on the novels by J.K. Rowling would serve to launch his career, as well as the careers of fellow co-stars Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson.

Speaking to the press following his first Tony Award win for his role in Merrily We Roll Along (via People), Radcliffe was asked about which book in the Harry Potter series he’s most looking forward to seeing adapted for the small screen. The 34-year-old English actor revealed he has a love for the final novel in J.K. Rowling’s series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is why it’s the one he’s anticipating the most, though he does point out that it will be a while before we see it come to life once more. Check out his comments below.

“The last one, I mean, it’ll be a while before they get to that, I assume, but that was always one of my favorite of the books and of the films.”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1

A reboot of the Harry Potter franchise was announced to be in development by Warner Bros. Discovery for its streaming platform Max in April 2023, and the studio recently set a premiere date of 2026. The series will bring the franchise to the small screen for the first time, with an all-new cast of characters in a version that is said to be more faithful to the original books than the films were. As of now, no casting news has been announced since the project is still in its infancy, with writers currently auditioning for the gig.

Will Daniel Radcliffe Be in the New Harry Potter Series?

There’s little info on the new Harry Potter series at the moment, but it has been reported that it will run on Max for “10 consecutive years,” meaning we’ll probably see the storylines from multiple books stretch out over the course of a season or two. While some fans thought that perhaps Fantastic Beasts would somehow play a part in the series to pad it out over those 10 years, WBD confirmed at the time of the announcement that storylines from that series would not be featured in the new Harry Potter.

Harry Potter TV Reboot Casting Will Be Huge Challenge, says Warner Bros. Exec

The Harry Potter TV show may only be in early development, but it is clear to Warner Bros. that there are many challenges coming.

While casting at this point is a non-issue until the series can nail down its creators, Daniel Radcliffe has addressed the possibility of appearing in the new Harry Potter series, the chances of which he says are very little at this point due to WBD wanting the new series to separate itself from its predecessor. Rightfully so, as the appearance of Radcliffe, who is synonymous with Harry Potter, would only take away from the vision they’re trying to create with the new show. Check out Radcliffe’s comments below.

“I think they very wisely want to [have] a clean break. And I don’t know if it would work to have us do anything in it.”
