Another Slasher Movie Gives Piglet His Time to Shine in Stand-Alone Horror

Another Slasher Movie Gives Piglet His Time to Shine in Stand-Alone Horror

Summary

  • Another Winnie the Pooh horror movie is in the works, this time focusing on Piglet in a slasher film titled
    Piglet.
  • Piglet
will combine the free-to-use character with classic slasher movie elements, promising a gory and terrifying experience.
  • This low-budget horror parody will feature practical effects and aim to become a cult classic in the slasher genre, directed by August Aguilar.

It seems that the public domain massacre of A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh characters is far from over, as another horror movie based on the children’s classic is in production. While the “Poohniverse” or “Twisted Childhood” saga continues to milk the phenomenon that began with Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, and another separate project is pitting Pooh against Mickey Mouse, it seems that Piglet is going to get his time to shine in the latest horror parody.

They may not have produced a Jason, Freddy, or Michael, but these fun one-off slasher movies certainly have their merits.

This reimagined version of the jittery porcine is being produced by SpookHouse MediaWorks and Strange Films Studios, and comes under the simple title of Piglet. Once again combining the now free-to-use character with the slasher sub-genre of horror movies, Piglet is described as invoking the spirit of Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Like previous movies in this continued exploitation of the public domain status of Winnie the Pooh and his friends, Piglet will be a movie made on a relatively small budget, with practical effects that are synonymous with the budget end of the horror genre. Discussing the plans for the movie, the team behind Piglet said:

“This new take on the public domain character Piglet blends elements of classic slasher films like Friday the 13th and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. We’re sparing no expense to stay true to the genre’s practical effects roots and create a truly nightmare-inducing experience. With an ensemble cast, Piglet is primed to be a cult classic in the making.”

The main plot of any slasher movie is pretty much given away by the fact it is a slasher movie. Piglet’s story will be built around what is likely to be several gory death scenes and is laid out in the synopsis of the movie, which reads:

“Deep in the remote Appalachian hills, lives Piglet. The son of a once industrious butcher and marred by tragedy, Piglet’s solitary life is shattered when fame-hungry millennials trespass onto his land. In a foolish bid to manufacture exploitation, one of them slaughters Piglet’s beloved pig. Little do they know; they’ve just incurred the wrath of a vengeful killer. Incensed, Piglet brutally dispatches the trespassers one by one, displaying savage power.”

There is very little mystery left to be revealed, and it seems that the main purpose of the movie is to simply deliver the simple and straightforward bloody mayhem that the slasher genre has survived on for decades. The film is directed by The Gifted helmer August Aguilar, and stars Celeste Blandon, Jasper Hammer, and Brian Bremer.

While the initial gimmick of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey using a character that has been mostly associated with Disney cartoons for many decades was financially successful, exactly how many more movies can repeat the same idea and remain interesting is something that will be discovered relatively quickly, as several new slashers are expected to arrive in the next few months.
