1917 Star Throws Hat in the Ring as Next James Bond

1917 Star Throws Hat in the Ring as Next James Bond

  • George MacKay is open to the idea of playing James Bond: “Manifest it.”
  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson is rumored to be the top choice for the next Bond, with support from former 007 actors.
  • While the Bond casting remains a mystery, MacKay has other intriguing projects like ”
    ” and ”
    The End
    ” in the works.

From Henry Cavill to Regé-Jean Page, the James Bond shortlist has plenty of big names vying for the role of 007, and now another young British actor has thrown his hat into the ring. Speaking recently with Variety, 1917 star George MacKay responded positively when a journalist suggested he could be the next Bond saying “Manifest it.” However, he does state that he has no idea “where it’s at” when it comes to casting the next 007.

“Manifest it. I don’t know. I don’t know what they’re thinking. It sort of pops up now and again in the news, isn’t it? ‘Oh, such and such is going to be it.’ And then who knows where it’s at.”

MacKay has received recognition for his performances in the likes of Pride, Captain Fantastic, True History of the Kelly Gang, Munich – The Edge of War, and former Bond director Sam Mendes’ 1917. Having also been the recipient of various awards, MacKay clearly has the acting chops to bring James Bond to life in whatever form the reboot eventually takes.

Henry Cavill Would Make the Perfect James Bond, Says His Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare Co-star

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare star Eiza González thinks, “It’s hard not to look at Henry Cavill and think of James Bond.”

At present, the hottest rumor about the new James Bond claims that Bullet Train and Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the top choice. Mysterious sources have said that a “formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back. As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.” In response to the rumors, Taylor-Johnson has already demonstrated his Bond-like poker face, saying…

“I can only really talk about the things I’m going to show and tell. So, The Fall Guy, Nosferatu, Kraven the Hunter. I don’t feel like I need to have a future drawn out for me. I feel like, whatever’s drawn out for me, I can f**ing do better.”

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Has the Blessing of Two Former James Bond Actors

While MacKay may have the backing of Variety, Taylor-Johson has been given the blessing of not one, but two former James Bond actors in George Lazenby and Pierce Brosnan. The GoldenEye star, who featured alongside Taylor-Johnson in 2009’s The Greatest thinks the Kick-Ass star has what’s needed for the iconic role.

“I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so.”

While we await further updates on who will play the latest iteration of James Bond, George MacKay has plenty of interesting projects already in the pipeline. The actor recently starred in the thriller, Femme, which follows a young man named Jules who is targeted in a horrific homophobic attack, destroying his life and career. Sometime after that, he encounters one of his attackers in a gay sauna and wants revenge. MacKay also recently starred alongside Léa Seydoux in filmmaker Bertrand Bonello’s sci-fi romantic drama The Beast. Set in the near future where emotions have become a threat, The Beast follows Gabrielle, who decides to purify her DNA in a machine that will plunge her into her past lives and rid her of all strong feelings.

He is next due to star in the apocalyptic musical movie, The End, which centers on a wealthy family living underground two decades after the end of the world…which they directly contributed to.
