Throughout its 15-year run on the CW, Supernaturalintroduced many characters. Between recurring characters and series regulars to the victims that the Winchester brothers save, the show saw a lot of people come and go. Which means a plethora of actors have stepped into the world of monster hunting. The show even had its fair share of celebrity guest stars, such as Paris Hilton, Snooki, and Rick Springfield. Since the show necessitated many actors over the years, some of these actors had barely begun working or had a short resume.

Multiple actors who either guest starred or had a recurring role on the show ended up going on to have successful careers in television, film, or both. A few of them have even gone on to earn major award nominations. Some of these actors you may not even remember had a role on the show. 10 Lauren Cohan

Six Episodes in Season 3

In the show’s third season, Lauren Cohan played British mercenary Bela Talbot. Bela’s first encounter with Sam and Dean is in the episode “Bad Day at Black Rock”, where their father’s storage unit is robbed and a lucky rabbit’s foot is stolen. Sam gets it back and experiences immense luck until Bela pickpockets it from him. Bela used her knowledge of the supernatural for her own gain rather than helping people, which put her at odds with the Winchesters.

She made her living by selling off supernatural artifacts and information without any regard for the consequences. However, it was revealed toward the end of her run on the show that it was because she made a deal with a crossroads demon to kill her abusive father as a teenager.

What Lauren Cohan Has Done Since Supernatural

Since her brief stint on the show, Cohan has appeared in numerous television shows and movies, such as The Vampire Diaries and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. She was also the lead character in the 2016 horror movie The Boy, where she played an American nanny sent to care for a British family’s son, who turned out to be a doll. Most notably, Cohan portrayed Maggie in the popular AMC show The Walking Dead from 2011 to 2022.

9 Adrianne Palicki

Four Episodes Throughout the Series

The pilot episode of Supernatural infamously began with Dean showing up at Stanford to tell Sam that their dad had been on a hunting trip and hadn’t been home in a while. With Sam at college was his girlfriend Jessica, played by Adrianne Palicki.

John was hunting the Yellow-Eyed demon who killed their mother by letting her burst into flames on the ceiling 22 years prior. Unfortunately for Sam, he had to watch Jessica go the same way. Palicki appeared a few times until season five, when the show was originally supposed to end.

What Palicki Has Done Since Supernatural

A year after appearing in the pilot, Palicki starred in the series Friday Night Lights as Tyra Collette. She also appeared in the action movies Red Dawn and GI Joe: Retaliation before landing a significant role in the Marvel Studios/ABC show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She also starred opposite Keanu Reeves in the first John Wick movie. She played Ms. Perkins, one of the assassins who worked for the High Table and the Continental and was out for the $2M bounty on John’s head.

8 Dylan Minnette

Season 4, Episode 11 – “Family Remains”

Dylan Minnette gained significant attention for his role in the controversial Netflix show 13 Reasons Why in 2017. However, Minnette has actually been acting since the early 2000s, and one of his earlier TV appearances was on Supernatural.

He was in the season four episode “Family Remains” and played the young son of a family who recently moved into a large, remote house. His character, Danny, was communicating with what they thought was a ghost girl living in the walls.

What Minnette Has Done Since Supernatural

In addition to starring in 49 episodes of 13 Reasons Why, Minnette has starred in many shows and movies. He was in horror movies such as Don’t Breathe, the fifth installment of the Scream franchise, and Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed psychological thriller Prisoners. He’s had a few television appearances in shows such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Scandal as well. Minnette is also in an indie band called Wallows.

7 Ashley Benson

Season 4, Episode 7 – “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester”

Ashley Benson is mostly known for playing Hanna Marin in the popular teen drama Pretty Little Liars. Just two years before landing that role, Benson guest starred in one episode of Supernatural during the fourth season. She played teenager Tracy Davis whose friends are dying around her in what seems to be a witch’s demonic sacrifice. It was indeed a witch sacrificing people, but Tracy was the one behind it all.

What Benson Has Done Since Supernatural

Aside from Pretty Little Liars, Benson was also one of the leads in one of A24’s earliest films, Spring Breakers. She starred alongside James Franco, Selena Gomez, and Vanessa Hudgens. She also co-starred with Elizabeth Moss in the 2018 film Her Smell and the Adam Sandler-led Pixels movie.

6 Leslie Odom Jr.

Season 7, Episode 8 – “Season 7, Time for a Wedding!”

Long before he was Aaron Burr in Lin Manuel Miranda’s hit musical Hamilton on Broadway, Leslie Odom Jr. played a crossroads demon in an episode of Supernatural.

He appeared in the episode “Season Seven, Time for a Wedding!” as the crossroads demon who poses as a Wiccan to sell Becky (Emily Perkins) a love potion, not knowing Sam is the one Becky wants. He tries to trick Becky into taking a deal for 25 years of Sam’s undying love in exchange for his soul, but she traps him in a Devil’s trap.

What Odom Jr. Has Done Since Supernatural

Leslie Odom Jr. has appeared in many shows and movies since Supernatural. Shortly after his guest appearance on the show, Odom Jr. was on the television show Smash for two seasons and was also on seven episodes of Law & Order: SVU. He has also been in high-profile movies such as One Night in Miami, The Many Saints of Newark, and Glass Onion. Most recently, he was in The Exorcist: Believer, which, unfortunately, was mostly a miss among fans of the original horror masterpiece.

5 Alden Ehrenreich

Season 1, Episode 2 – “Wendigo”

The second episode of Supernatural, “Wendigo”, centers around the boys helping Haley and Ben Collins find their younger brother who recently disappeared in the woods. Ben was played by a young Alden Ehrenreich, which was his first-ever acting credit. With Sam and Dean’s help, Ben and his sister discover that a Wendigo, a former human whose cannibalism gave it superhuman strength to feast on flesh, has their brother.

What Ehrenreich Has Done Since Supernatural

Ehrenreich has come a long way since his appearance on the show. Most notably, he starred as young Han Solo in the movie Solo: A Star Wars Story. He has been in many movies since Supernatural, including Beautiful Creatures, Park Chan-wook’s Stoker, the Cohen brothers’ Hail, Caeser!, and Fair Play. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was an integral part of the first season. He played Sam and Dean’s father, John Winchester, the man who roped them into the hunter lifestyle after their mother was killed. He spent over two decades training his boys in the lifestyle to prepare them to track down the demon that took their mom’s life. He was in most of the first season until he was ultimately killed off at the beginning of season two. Still, John’s impact on his sons lasted throughout the entire 15 seasons of the show.

What Jeffrey Dean Morgan Has Done Since Supernatural

Shortly after his time as John Winchester ended, Morgan landed a recurring role on Grey’s Anatomy as Denny Duequette. Denny had a severe heart condition and was the fan-favorite love interest of Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl). He was also in movies such as Watchmen, The Losers, and Red Dawn. Of course, his most recognizable post-Supernatural role is none other than Negan in The Walking Dead.

3 Finn Wolfhard

Season 11, Episode 5 – “Thin Lizzie”

​​​​​​​Finn Wolfhard is one of the most recognized child actors of his generation. He’s been acting since 2012, when he was only nine to ten years old. One of his earliest television appearances was in the season 11 episode of Supernatural, “Thin Lizzie”. He played Jordie Pinsky, a young boy whose babysitter loses her soul to Amara (the Darkness) and goes on a killing spree. The Babysitter ends up killing his mother, leaving him an orphan.

What ​​​​​​​Finn Wolfhard Has Done Since Supernatural

​​​​​​​The role that ignited Wolfhard’s young superstardom was Mike Wheeler in Netflix’s mega-hit show Stranger Things, which aired a year after his guest appearance on Supernatural.

Since then, he’s had starring roles in the IT franchise as well as Ghostbusters: Afterlife and its upcoming sequel, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Wolfhard was also in A24’s When You Finish Saving the World, in which he co-starred alongside Julianne Moore. 2 Kathryn Newton

Kathryn Newton had a prominent recurring role on Supernatural starting in season ten. Newton played Claire Novak, the daughter of Jimmy Novak, Castiel’s (Misha Collins) human vessel. Claire’s mother left her shortly after Jimmy gave his body as a vessel to Cas, leaving Claire to bounce around the foster care system.

As a result, Claire decided to become a hunter as a teenager. Once Cas, Sam, and Dean learned how her life had turned out, they essentially became her protectors. Her character was supposed to lead a spin-off series called The Wayward Sisters, which sadly was never brought to fruition.

What Newton Has Done Since Supernatural

​​​​​​​Newton has been booked and busy since her time on Supernatural. She led the series The Society, a modern retelling of the Lord of the Flies, that was unceremoniously canceled by Netflix. She played Reese Witherspoon’s daughter in the HBO series Big Little Lies from 2017 through 2019. Her movie career has been even busier than her television career. She has starred in the horror comedies Freaky and Lisa Frankenstein, the MCU movie Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and acclaimed films such as Lady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

1 Sterling K. Brown

Season 3, Episode 7 – “Fresh Blood”

Decades before he was an Academy Award nominee, Sterling K. Brown played a monster hunter-turned-vampire on Supernatural. His character, Gordon Walker, had a penchant for taking out entire vampire dens and didn’t care for the abilities that Sam possessed in seasons two and three. He eventually went after the Winchester brothers to take Sam out himself, believing that Sam was also a monster. During his obsessive quest, he was bitten by a vampire and turned, becoming a monster himself.

What Sterling K. Brown Has Done Since Supernatural

Brown has had an extensive film and television career since his time playing a ruthless monster hunter. He was on 108 episodes of Army Wives and made appearances on shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds before landing his Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-winning role on This is Us as Randall Pearson.

He has been in movies such as Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Waves, Marshall, Black Panther, and most recently, the Best Picture nominated film, American Fiction. In total, Brown has received nine Emmy nominations (and three wins), two Golden Globe nominations (and one win), 11 SAG nominations (and four wins), and one Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
